Apple Crumble Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2012
I took this to dinner and the 6 people (including myself) loved it. Apple Pie is such a simple thing but done well can be amazing! I used all the suggestions from the first reviewer and they were spot on.

Chipotle Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2010
I loved this recipe, it was wonderful comfort food. I added chicken, and did not have the types of cheeses (I just used cheddar cheese). My husband said it was good, and that he would eat it anytime. The recipe calls for the perfect amount of cheese sauce as well, so it isn't dry like some mac and cheese recipes. I also didn't have time to cook it in the oven for longer than 10 minutes, and it was fine! I would recommend this to anyone who is wanting some jazzed up mac and cheese.

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: May 28, 2010
I have made this recipe many times and make it as the recipe states. It is like comfort food, it is that good. And the best thing is that it takes 5 minutes to put together. The only thing I have to say is that it doesn't keep well. I tried eating it the following day and it just wasn't the same, the punch of the contrasting sweet and savoury flavors just didn't stay. It is however, so good that leftovers probably won't happen.

Zucchini Muffins

Reviewed: May 28, 2010
Pretty bland and doughy. It's very hard to make good pastries without having a decent amount of sugar. I would almost triple the amount of honey (or white sugar) and add extra spices to make it worth it. I think I will try a different recipe in the future.

Cheesy Polenta

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2010
I love this recipe, and have been using it for almost a year. I don't usually let the polenta simmer for 20 minutes...its usually more like 5 minutes. I stir like crazy up until I hit the point where I let it sit for 5 minutes, and it is cooked through and tastes good. I use whatever cheese it on hand, and it is delicious! This polenta combines well with the summer squash polenta recipe on here, or is great by itself. Store bought polenta has nothing on this recipe!!!

Avocado, Tomato and Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
If I could give this 10 stars I would!! My husband has been bringing up this salsa every couple days since I made it weeks ago! It is perfect with every Mexican dish and it makes any homemade Mexican meal feel like you have gone to an amazing restaurant. It really isn't difficult to put together, and it is SO worth it. When I made it I didn't have any red onion so I used white, and I didn't have any jalapenos so I used a tiny amount of cayenne (I didn't want it to be too spicy for those sensitive to it). Thanks for the amazing recipe

Pumpkin Apple Streusel Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
I made some changes, as recommended by reviewers. I used one cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of white sugar. I usually always cut down on the sugar amount in baking recipes, and usually its fine. I found with this one though I should have used all 2 cups of sugar. I also would have added more spices, as I felt it was lacking some umph. My husband though they were fine, but I have tried a lot better recipes. I think with all the sugar and a bit more spice that these would taste better. Also, I might try shredding the apple, instead of big chunks (they look a little funky to me!)

I have made this recipe many many times and it always comes out really great!! The only adjustment I make is less evaporated milk, other than it works every time.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
I made the sauce exactly as mentioned and it was beautiful. I tweaked the meatball recipe, and cooked it in the oven and added them in with the basil, pepper and tomato paste. This recipe is amazing, it also provides a great base for tomato based pasta sauces.

Baked Oatmeal I

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
I have made this three times since I found the recipe 4 days ago. Wonderful flavor and texture. Just make sure to heat up the milk a bit before putting it in the bowl! I found it cooled it down a little too much, so warming it up kept everything warm and delicious. Also, the second time I made it I lined a casserole dish with apples, and that worked really well. Thanks for the recipe!

Traditional Hot Cross Buns

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
Nice...I used dried cranberries instead of raisins and currants, and the flavor was nice. When they came out of the oven, I tasted one and noticed a slight yeast flavor, but when it was slabbed with jam and margarine, the yeast taste was covered up. I also needed to add one of the four teaspoons of sugar to the yeast and milk mixture to proof the yeast. My husband who says he is a hot cross bun connoisseur, said they were "pretty good."

Peanut Butter Carrot Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
These cookies were really nice. I used a little bit extra flour, since I read that the cookies kept falling apart. The first time I made these cookies, I did it without the chips, and they okay. The second time I made them with semi-sweet chips and some dried cranberries and WOW did the chips make a difference. These are really yummy, don't be scared by how many different ingredients are in it! I will be making these again for sure.

Italian Summer Squash Polenta Bake

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
I combined this recipe with the "Cheesy Polenta" recipe. I know it defeats the point a little, but I did not have any squash on me. I sauteed red pepper and carrots with garlic powder and rosemary, and the flavors worked really well together. I also layered cooked sausage in between the polenta and sauce mixture, so the dish was hearty and really, really good. My husband said it was one of the best things I have ever made.

Vegan Red Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2009
I just have one piece of advice....add extra water (or broth) if you want this to be a soup, otherwise it will be more like a lentil stew.

Slow Cooker Lentils and Sausage

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
So honestly, this recipe was okay the night I made it, but was really good the following day. I will admit it doesn't look pretty, but I don't have kids to worry about. This is a good tasting recipe, especially if you find a good sausage. I used a Jimmy Dean sage sausage, and it had a good flavor. I have just started using my slow cooker, and used a previous suggestion of cooking it on low for 10 hours. Well things were mushy (but still tasted good), I probably would have cooked it on low for 7 hours.

Butter Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
The recipe is good and not difficult to make! I fried the spices before the onions like suggested, and it definitely did not come out bland. I always imagined cooking curries to be really complicated, but this was easy. This recipe has now become a weekly rotation for my husband and I, we love it!

Chicken Piccata II

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
I should have listened to the recommendations that others gave, by doubling the recipe and double coating the chicken. It started to crumble off a bit while I was cooking it. It still tasted mouth watering wonderful, that is why I gave it 5 stars.
