Roquefort Pear Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2013
Made this recipe for a Sunday party. It had everything I love in a salad. Women liked it; men didn't care for it. I used red leaf lettuce and I think it would be better with a crunchier lettuce, like romaine or iceberg. The soft red leaf was pretty but the salad was hard to eat with party forks because you couldn't get a taste of everything on the fork. You ended up with bite of lettuce then a bite of pear and then a bite of avocado. I had to leave the nuts on the side because of a friend's food allergy and the men ate the nuts out of the dish and left the salad. Tasted good just wasn't a ballpark hit.

Lemon Horseradish New Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2013
Normally I make rosemary roasted potatoes so I thought this might be interesting. I made a double recipe of the sauce for 3 lb of chunked red potatoes and slathered them before roasting. There was a hint of lemon fragrance while cooking. When I tried them they tasted liked plain roasted potatoes. So I squeezed 1/4 cup of lemon juice and upped the sauce recipe to stay true. I coated the potatoes and returned them to roast another 15 minutes. All the sauce soaked in but the taste was still too mild to overtake the roasted potato flavor. I was surprised the horseradish and lemon was nice but the flavor was too subtle. Everyone at dinner party ate the potatoes but thought they were just plain. No one was offended but no one raved.

Awesome Summer Watermelon Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2013
I was supposed to bring watermelon chunks to a summer party. I took half of the watermelon chunks and I made this recipe. No one liked it. As suggested, I tried the red, white and blue version (added blueberries) since it is almost the 4th. The balsamic should specify white balsalmic because regular dark balsalmic stains all the white feta a dingy yellow. No patriot look at all! No one liked the chewy feta in a soft fruit salad. The watermelon did burst in your mouth which is the nicest part of the salad but there was no watermelon taste as the gentle fruit had picked up the oily vinegar taste. A few people ate a few blueberries but again the oiliness ruined the refreshing reason we eat fruit. All of the plain watermelon is gone.

Artichoke, Cheese and Olive Antipasto

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
Substituted marinated Greek olives ( also used pimento stuffed olives) for black olives which we don't like. Made way too much for one loaf of bread, then had left overs and the cheese in the wet salsa was not good the next day. However it was a raving good salsa for the bruschetta we made if eaten immediately. We tried making bruschetta by browning 1/4" diagonally-sliced baguette sprayed with butter under broiler but burned. So we added olive oil and butter to a fry pan and turned the baguette pieces in fry pan til golden and they were spectacular. Can control beautiful coloring with constant supervision. Serve bread warm and salsa room temp

Four Fruit Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
We did not care for this pie. Way too watery from fresh fruit cooking. bottom crust soggy. Peaches picked up colors from raspberries and looked unappealing. The crust on top was good.

Zesty Lemon Loaf

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2009
I goofed the first couple of times and used regular white sugar not confectioners sugar; the clear glaze soaked into the loaf. Then wrapping it with plastic wrap allowed the loaf to absorb the sweet glaze. Still have not added the Grand Marnier because I thought it was too much to pay for 2 tbsp of flavor. Now that I've made the recipe at least a dozen times I wish I had tried the liquor. I will use powdered sugar and the liquor next. But always end up making more loafs to use up the buttermilk. I like the consistency when in a 9" rather than 8" pan. The best part is serving it with a lemon gelato and fresh blueberries and raspberries!

KELLOGG'S* RICE KRISPIES* Santa Claus Faces

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
They were a cute idea. And maybe a good project for kids over holidays . But there was no way they could be kept fresh to put out for holidays. After a few days no matter how I stored them, they were tough and chewy. and soggy. and the size of your fist when all other cookies are so much smaller/ Rice krispies treats are sweet already and icing is too much. Kids picked off candy and didn't eat more than 1 bite. Maybe these need to be eaten immediately.
