Classic CRISCO® Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2014
I've used this pie crust recipe for decades and everybody loves my pies. I put an ice cube in the water to make sure it's really cold. I'm going to follow the suggestion of Beadanurse and use the food processor on the "pulse" setting since I'm making many pies this season!

Adrienne's Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2013
Very good cucumber salad. I would reduce the sugar a bit next time but it was still delicious made with my garden cucumbers and a fresh onion.

Ukrainian Dill and Garlic Pickles

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2013
Mine are on day six of fermenting and they taste way too salty so I am going to follow the suggestions for fixing them. My garlic pieces have turned bright green, is that normal? Are they absorbing the cucumber colors? I made these from my garden pickles and jalapeno peppers for the spice. I'm going to leave them until Sunday then I'll come back and comment on the results.

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2012
I made this nearly exactly as described and it turned out perfect. The only thing I did differently was to add four chopped fresh Serrano peppers from the garden and omitted the cayenne pepper. Wonderful recipe!

Mediterranean Medley Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2011
I made this today using garden cherry tomatoes, zucchini, seeded cucumber, bell peppers, mild hot peppers and with sweet onion from the grocery store. It was amazing! Three of us ate the entire dish in short time. What an excellent and healthy recipe for summer veggies from the garden!

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

My son made this for Easter and it was delicious. I've made lemon meringue pie twice in the past with 50/50 results. This one tasted great and was perfect. This recipe is a keeper.

Guacamole with Feta and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
This is delicious and a hit with my family. I've made it twice in a week so far! I used three avocados, three plum tomatoes, 2 tablespoons cilantro for the spice, left out the olive oil, and squeezed half a fresh lime over all. I also added 2 finely chopped seeded jalapeno peppers and used light feta cheese. I serve this with "Scoop" tortilla chips and it's irresistable. Thanks for the great recipe! It's more like guacamole the way I make it but terrific!!

Banana Bread - Quick Bread for Machines

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
It made a pretty loaf! I followed the directions exactly but added some cinnamon as someone else suggested. My sons both gave this a thumbs up. I have a programmable bread machine and followed the settings as listed. Next time I'll slice the bananas first though because there were a few chunks in there.

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2009
I made this tonight and it was a hit with my husband and two sons, even the youngest, my picky eater proclaimed, "This is the best Mexican soup I've ever eaten!" I also gave four stars because I modified it with several changes, but the base recipe is awesome and so easy to make! Thanks for sharing! I served with cheddar cheese corn quesadillas to make it gluten free as well. I minced some onion and garlic and sauted in olive oil, substituted chicken broth and increased to 2 cups, and stirred in about a half cup of frozen corn.

Old-Fashioned Cheese Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2009
This was easy and delicious and a hit with my family. I made it last night with pork chops and a salad. I sliced the potatoes very thin, put in a large glass bowl with two tablespoons of water, covered and microwaved on high for 4 minutes to give them a head start. I was able to reduce the baking time to 45 minutes doing this. I also substituted cheddar cheese and added some dried minced onion and garlic powder. I also used cayenne pepper. It was great and a keeper! This will be a good one to double and use for holiday meals.

Guinness® Corned Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
This was a hit with my family for St Patty's Day. I made three corned beef flats (about 12 lbs, fat trimmed off), put them in crockpots. I divided two bottles of beer and the cup of brown sugar between them. Cooked on high for five hours. I preboiled the potatoes for ten minutes then added the last 90 minutes. I suctioned some juice from the crockpot to cook the cabbage in separately on the stovetop. The guys loved this. It's going to be my new method from now on.

A bit heavy on the spinach... It was good but I think I'd thin it a bit next time.

Mini Reubens

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
These were pretty good, though I used low fat thousand island and low fat Swiss cheese. I think I'd use the full fat varieties if I make it again though. Why scrimp when making something like this?
