About this Cook
I'm a 46 year old stay at home Mom and artist who loves to cook. It seems to come naturally to me, but then I also had a few of the best cooks teaching me while I was a child...my Nana and my Mom. My husband and I have a combined "company" for our art creations, named Spirit Oaks Studio that we do for fun.
My favorite things to cook
Gosh, it would be a shorter list to list what I DON'T like to cook. I'll have to think on this one.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving dinners...it was always big when my Nana was still alive and some of my best memories ever!
My cooking triumphs
Stumbling across an episode of Alton Brown when he did a brined turkey and I haven't cooked them any other way since!! Everyone raves about it and it turns out perfect every time.
My cooking tragedies
About 12 years back, on a night that I must not have felt like cooking from scratch, I used a box of Zatarain's Gumbo mix and ick, was it the worst thing ever! I have used quite a few of their products through the years, but that night was horrid.

Cranberry-Pumpkin Cookies
These are delicious! I made a few very minor adjustments and also made two batches...one WITH nuts for me, and one without for my husband and daughter. I added extra orange peel to brighten up the flavor. The first one out of the oven that I tasted did not impress me...it seemed VERY dry. But as the batches came out and cooled, they became more moist. Also, the next day they become SUPER moist. YUMMY! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Pumpkin Cookies I
I made these for my son's 1st grade class this morning for their Thanksgiving vacation festivities. As I see most every other cook out here does (and I've done for years with most of my own cooking), I tweaked the recipe. In fact I might have to submit my own version of it, with credit of course to this one. At first I wasn't thrilled with the taste, but as they cooled and I added a "glaze" they tasted better...oh and of course I doubled the cinnamon, added allspice, ginger and nutmeg and omitted the butterscotch morsels, then topped with sprinkles after I glazed them. (see why I'll submit my version? lol). But these were a perfect starting point for me and the kids gobbled them up like turkeys!!
