hi. my name's Meghan. i'm 26 years old. i have been a vegetarian for about 13 years. i've gotten pretty creative in adjusting meat-based recipes and coming up with vegetarian substitutions.
My favorite things to cook
i've gotten about of the cooking habit over the past few years. being single, i never really cook for just myself. but my mom passed away in march 2008, and since then i've rediscovered my interest in cooking when i began making dinners for my dad. i find it very satisfying to cook for others.
My favorite family cooking traditions
both my grandmothers and my mother were big into cooking. (my dad's mother is freaking gourmet about it! incredible). so i was taught about cooking and baking from day 1. my favorite traditions are the christmas cookies that MUST be made every year (finnish fingers + coconut maccaroons) and the egg brunch that my mom made every christmas morning. (it's up to me now!).
My cooking triumphs
having my dad brag about the dinners i make for him.
My cooking tragedies
trying to cook meat! i'm clueless. when i try to pick out meat from the case at the grocery store, i resort to asking fellow shoppers around me what to get. one particular experience that went awry was when i tried to make lemon-pepper chicken for my (then) boyfriend. apparently i WAY over did it with the seasoning. (it's so hard to cook something without tasting it!)
