Rich and Simple French Onion Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2013
This was awesome just the way the recipe is written. My hubby says it rivals the French Onion soups he has had at some very expensive restaurants. Thank you for sharing, I am so happy to have one of hubby's favorite foods that I can add to my rotation! :)

Candy Cane Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2013
I mad this as a Christmas gift for my work colleagues, and while it was too sweet for me, they loved it! My son has been sneaking pieces every time I turn my back. I melted the chips and condensed milk in the microwave instead of in a saucepan...much easier! It is a very thick mixtue and does begin to thicken even more very quickly, so I also stuck it back in the microwave for a few seconds to loosen it up and get it into the pan. I'll be making it again!! 3 batches in and still getting requests...

Mulligatawny Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2013
In a word...awesome!! I pureed the veggies and broth after Step 1 so my veggie-phobic son would still try it; and it was a hit. I'm glad I made a double batch, because it's disappearing fast!

Chocolate Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2012
This recipe has made me a hero to my hubby!! I put a cake pan with boiling water in the oven below my cheesecake (not touching) and it seems to have fixed the cracking problem. This is a delicious chocolate cheesecake, and a recipe I'll definitely be keeping in my rotation!

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2012
I only used half the cayenne, as I was afraid my son would not eat it if it was too spicy. This was awesome!!!! The meat was tender and juicy and the gravy made from the drippings was really tasty. It made a great change from the ordinary, and my son and his friend asked for seconds. I love it when something this easy becomes a family favorite. :)

Strawberry Jam

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
This is a simple, wonderful recipe. It gelled beautifully, and my son has already made toast so he could try it out! Definitely use a heavy bottomed pot, and make sure it is a big one because the rolling boil stage will overflow a smaller pot.

Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2009
This was great!! I only changed the shortening to butter and followed the rest of the recipe exactly. I baked the cakes in my muffin pan (15mins at 425), and got 10 cakes. It tastes just like the ones my grandma used to make...even my husband thought it was fabulous, and he was dubious at first because he is used to the ones made with angel food cake. This is definately a keeper!!!! Thanks Denyse!!!!

Rhubarb Strawberry Crunch

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
I used about 3/4 cup of sugar, thanks to the reviews I saw here. I baked mine in a 9 x 9 inch deep dish...and it was fabulous!! I added about 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to give the topping a little extra, and since I had an extra cup of rhubarb left over I put that in too. Everything worked beautifully, and my husband is still raving.

Belle's Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
I've been looking for a good recipe for hamburger buns for a while, as I prefer to make as much of my family's food from scratch as possible. This recipe was easy and turned out beautifully! I prepared the bread dough as I always do, and replaced 2 cups of white flour with whole wheat flour. I also grated a bit of cheddar cheese to sprinkle on top of the buns before baking. They were just the right size and the texture was perfect! They got rave reviews from my VERY picky husband, and I'll never buy buns from the grocery store again!

Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
As a first time fudge-maker, I was very nervous when I set out to try this!! I read every review, and got so many very helpful hints. To my delight (and that of my 5 year old son)it has turned out wonderfully!!! My arms are aching from all of the stirring, but it is smooth & creamy, and soooo much better than any fudge I have bought recently! Melt in your mouth awesome!! The tips about ensuring no sugar crystals got into the fudge after it started to boil, what a "soft ball" is (I can't find my candy thermometer, I know it's here somewhere!!), and not to give up on the stirring were excellent advice! This recipe has become a new family favorite..."nummy" is the quote from my chocolate encrusted sous-chef!!
