Chocopeanutbanana Smoothie

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
I made this exactly as written & loved it! I also made one w/vanilla yogurt instead of milk. It was good but not as good as the original. I am also going to try strawberry syrup next time instead of chocolate. I'm sure the original will always be my favorite though.

Lentils And Spinach

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2011
We had this as a main dish, served over white rice & it was pretty good! I loved that it was pretty inexpensive & healthy too. I did use 1/2 chicken broth in place of water & Im glad I did. I will make this again, probably as a side dish next time. My husband & daughter said it was great as a main dish.

Southwestern Sausage Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
I really wanted to make these for my husband & son. I didn't have all the ingredients, so I did have to change it up a little. And it still turned out really good. This is definitely a "guys" biscuit! Right out of the oven, these are warm, hearty & delicious! I didn't have any green onions so we did w/out. I didn't have diced tomatoes, but I did have crushed & I just used a little less. I didn't have the zesty hot sausage, so I just used a little red pepper flakes & extra cayenne pepper. I can't say it enough, my son loves these biscuits & I don't think you could go wrong if you made these for teenagers. I cant say that I didn't like them, b/c they are good (its like a whole meal in itself) :). But I would probably go a little less hearty! Still.. great recipe though!!!

Cheesy Quinoa Pilaf with Spinach

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
Such a great, easy recipe! It definitely has a nice nutty flavor that would go great w/fish. My husband thought it was perfect just by itself. I tripled the serving b/c I have a big family & it worked well for us, no leftovers. I only doubled the olive oil & cheese though. Im excited to make this again!

Amish Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
Great cookie recipe! Reminds me of pecan sandies w/out the pecans. My mother stopped by & said these were the best cookies. She doesn't even care for cookies. I had to use butter flavored Crisco b/c I didn't have any butter. It still turned out great though! My mother & I will both be making these again.

Veggie Cheddar Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
So darn good! I incorporated a few suggestions from other reviewers & I bet either way this recipe is fantastic. I did increase potatoes to about 4 or 5 (they were pretty small). I used beer to just cover what potatoes the broth didn't. I added an extra cup of cheese. I sauteed the onions in olive oil for a bit & then added the carrots. And the carrots... I tried using my new food processor to chop them & I somewhat shredded them by accident. But it really worked for us! My 5yr old had 3 1/2 good size bowls. We all loved it!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2010
My family & I loved this recipe. What a nice change from the green bean casserole w/cream of mushroom soup. I made a few minor changes with a little less salt & sour cream & the addition of a little blk pepper & a can of french fried onions. The fam said it was amazing! I will use this recipe from now on!

Gourmet Caramel Apples

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2010
These were so much fun to make! I made sure to have extra caramels & extra chocolate just in case. It came in handy b/c of course I did mess up & needed to correct it. I bought the caramels that came w/the wooden craft sticks (Kraft I think). I used hersheys milk chocolate chips instead of candy bars. I also used orange melting wafers & white almond bark to decorate with. After I melted the white & orange, I put them in baggies and made a small snip in the corner and just applied it that way. Whatever technique works though right. Oh, they are beautiful and so, so much fun! Thank you djnewlon!!!! :)

Strawberry Whipped Sensation

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2010
I followed this recipe exactly and it turned out wonderful! It is a perfect summer time recipe that I will continue to make. Some comments said the lemon was too strong, but to me there was just a very subtle "hint" of lemon. But the rest of my family couldn't tell at all. And some reviews said you will need more cool whip, but I made this in the loaf pan, used exactly 2 cups in the filling and had the perfect amount left over for rest. And the cookies were just enough to give it a nice bit of crust/texture w/out over powering it. Oh, and on mashing, I just used a potato masher and that worked just fine. As others said, it really does get better as it thaws. It may not look as pretty, but as fast as it goes, it doesn't matter. The initial presentation is beautiful anyway, lol. It taste light & cool, perfect for summer. Aside from the strawberries, its really not healty, but boy is it delicious!

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2010
My family and I loved this recipe! There are so many possibilites w/this, its great! I took the advise of the 1st review and made the 1st 1/2 w/Panko. I made the 2nd 1/2 w/bread crumbs and they were both great! I also added some garlic salt for a little more flavor. I also read a review about adding bread crumbs to the bottom of the pan before baking, I thought that was a great idea, but it didn't work out for me, maybe I did something wrong b/c it caused my chicken to burn on the bottom. The pans that I didn't presprinkle w/bread crumbs turned out better (I doubled the recipe). No big deal though, it was fantastic all the way around, anyway we made it. :) Thanks for a great recipe!

Swiss Vegetable Medley

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
I added this recipe to our Easter dinner this year and it was loved by everyone! I may add fresh veggies next time. Like the 1st review, I didn't care for the texture of the frozen veggies. But thats just personal preference and nobody else complained, quite the opposite actually. I doubled this recipe and baked in a glass 9x13, it presents beautifully and taste heavenly. Perfect for any dinner occassion.

Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2010
I absolutely love this cake, and I'm not even a fan of chocolate cake, lol! Great recipe. This is gonna sound weird, but I didn't have any coffee flavored liquer, but I did have butterscotch schnapps. Yes I used the butterscotch schnapps and aside from that I followed the recipe exactly. I drizzled on chocolate ganache (recipe from this site by ingridevogel) and loved every last bite, not to mention the cake looked beautiful! My children didn't care much for the ganache though, but the adults loved it.

Chocolate Ganache

I love this recipe! I didn't have any dark rum, just vanilla. I used the vanilla rum and it still turned out fantastic. I drizzled this on top of the chocolate cavity maker cake. I thought they really complimented each other. I will use the recipe again!

Chocolate Rum Balls I

My husband thinks these are out of this world, lol! I made them exactly as written, never made rum balls before and my husband has claimed the whole batch. They are strong, I've only had a couple and though they are not my favorite holiday treat, they are #1 for my husband. 5 stars indeed! :)

Monkey Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
Loved this bread! Fun and easy to make and fun to share. I used a bundt pan, and the 3 (12oz) pkgs of biscuits and didn't have any problems with it overflowing or mess. On the sauce after it finished boiling, I added 1 tsp of vanilla. I served this Christmas morning and I couldn't keep my oldest daughter away from it. She was eating it out of the pan before I could flip it onto a serving plate. I'm ready to make this again!

Mexican Style Cornbread

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
My first attempt at mexican style cornbread and it turned out awesome! I used white cornmeal, wasn't sure what kind to get and left out the onion. The baking time was right on for me too. The bread was perfectly moist and I forgot to add the cheese at the end on the top, but I was really pleased anyway. My family loved the bread! I can't imagine making any mexican dish from now on without it. Thanks for such a simple and wonderful recipe!

Dawn's Candied Walnuts

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
These are excellent! I normally use the sugar coated pecan recipe on this site by Carolyn and those are wonderful too. This was a pleasant change though and I'm happy I tried them. I'm getting ready to make my 2nd batch b/c my son is on his way over and I know he will love these too! I was really concerned about the "soft ball" stage b/c I've never heard of that before, but I got out a cup of ice water which was a bit awkward to me, but I cooked my sugar mixture exactly 8 minutes on medium which was a 6/7 on my gas range and they turned out perfect. No complaints at all. Thank you Dawn for a great recipe!!!

Butterscotch Haystacks

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
These are terriffic! I left out the marshmallows, thought about replacing them with nuts but decided not to. Everybody loved them, I'm making another batch tonight b/c the first "doubled" batch didn't last 1 day. I tried melting the butterschotch chips w/the peanut butter on the first batch, but the chips just wouldnt melt. The 2nd batch I melted the chips first, then mixed in the peanut butter and that way was perfect. Oh yeah, and I mistakenly bought a bag of peanut butter w/ semisweet chocolate chips, I whipped those up too and and they were loved too. My favorite is still the butterscotch though.

Bacon Roll Ups II

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2009
Many, many stars! My family inhaled these bacon roll ups! When you think about it, it doesn't seem like the ingredients would work. But, it does and its fantastic. I added a little garlic powder and salt, shreddard cheddar and chives to my cream cheese. Then, on half of the bread, I spread on the cream cheese mixture, rolled it up, then sprinkled brown sugar on my bacon and wrapped it around the bread and secured w/a toothpick. I'm not sure if it was the type of bacon I used but mine did drip. I will definitely use a broiler pan next time b/c it made a mess in my oven and we had to open windows from the smoke, lol. Totally worth it though and I'll be making these again!
