Holiday Tossed Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
I can't say enough about this salad. It is my all-time favorite. I love every ingredient and to put them all together is the perfect meal for me. My daughter and I like to use Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette. I have had this for lunch 3 days this week! We are adding this salad to our Thanksgiving menu this year. Thanks for sharing!

Mama Corleone's Sausage and Peppers

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
This is a favorite here. I have prepared this many times and always use whatever pasta I have on hand. I leave the sausage in the casings and cut each link into 5 or 6 pieces before adding to the pan. When the pepper are tender, I deglaze the pan with approx. 1/4 cup red wine. This is a great recipe. Fast, easy and perfect results every time. My whole family really enjoys this. Thanks for sharing!

Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
We absolutely love this frosting! Please note this is not an overly sweet frosting. It is a perfect match to the "A-Number-1 Banana Cake" from this site. I'm sure it would be wonderful with just about anything you pair it with. Very easy and quick to prepare. It thickens up as it cools. I refrigerated it for approx. 40 minutes and it was thick enough to pipe. The texture is very smooth and slightly dense. Delicious. Thanks for sharing!

A-Number-1 Banana Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
Excellent Banana Cake! Very moist yet light and tender. I used four small - medium bananas and it was perfect. Not overly sweet with great banana flavor. I made cupcakes and followed Naples34102 and topped them with the "Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting" from this site. Perfect match! Thanks for sharing!

Tuna Noodle Casserole from Scratch

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
Excellent! Tuna Casserole is not one of hubby's favorite meals. The kids and I like it so I was determined to find a recipe that he would enjoy as well. This is the one! When I mentioned to him that I would be trying another recipe, his only request was to add a little more tuna and leave out the peas. I used half button and half baby bella mushrooms, deglazed the pan with approx. 1/4 cup white wine with the mushrooms and added a handful of Durkee fried onions during the last 5 - 10 minutes in the oven. Everyone loved it and we will enjoy this often. Thanks for sharing!!

Virginia Apple Pudding

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
Perfect! Simple, classic old-fashioned dessert. A very, very moist pudding cake that is mildly spiced. I mixed the ingredients in a bowl instead of the actual baking dish and then transfered over and distributed the apples evenly over the top. This worked out great and the apples were spread out and in every bite. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel syrup. There were 4 of us here for dinner and all 6 servings were gone by the end of the night. :) Thanks for sharing!

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
One of the best recipes from this site that we have tried. Hubby, kids and granddaughter absolutely love it! I followed the recipe pretty close, only making a few minor changes to use what was on hand. I used probably closer to 2 1/2 pounds of sirloin completely trimmed of any fat, a whole large vidalia onion, 4 bell peppers (1 each green, red, orange and yellow) and low sodium soy sauce. I also did not add the peppers in the beginning with the the other ingredients. I waited until approx. 2 hours before serving. They were very tender but not mushy. Served over Jasime rice. The meat is so tender it just melts in your mouth and the flavor is excellent. Simple, hearty, comfort food. This will be added to our "favorites file". Thanks for sharing!

Herb Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
These are soooo good! After reading the reviews, I reduced the butter to 1/3 cup and that was perfect. The 8" round cake pan I used worked fine but it was a very tight fit because I had purchased "Grands" size biscuits. I was a little concerned about the exterior biscuits being done before the middle. I added 2 min to the bake time and they were nicely browned on the outside and done in the middle. So easy and fast with excellent results. We will use this recipe often. Thanks for sharing!

Sweet Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
The flavor is a nice change from the norm but the texture and recipe gave me a little trouble. Everything was going great until the last addition of the remaining 2 TBS of sugar and the last 10 min in the oven. The final bake resulted in the sugar burning a little, quickly melting and spreading out and making more of a "brittle" out of the seeds. As "christalmiron" mentioned, they had to be individually broken apart and the excess "brittle" broken off each seed. The pumpkin is lost a little under all the sugar and cinnamon but the coating flavor is very good. We enjoyed trying a new recipe and I will try again and watch them very closely toward the end. Thanks for sharing!

Sunflower Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
The perfect cookie. Everyone loved these. They are slightly chewy, a little crispy on the outside and the buttery, nutty flavor is delicious. Followed the recipe, including the optional coconut (I will include it next time again) except used fall colored chocolate covered sunflower seeds. These were gone in one day and hubby and all the kids have asked for them again. Thanks for sharing!

White Cake Frosting II

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
Excellent! Perfect white frosting in under 5 minutes. I needed a pure white frosting and did not have clear vanilla so I went with Almond Extract and it worked out great. I was very generous with the frosting on the cupcakes I used this on and received many favorable comments about it not being overly sweet and having great flavor and texture. This one will definately be used again and again. Thanks for sharing!

Super-Delicious Zuppa Toscana

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
Great Soup! Followed the recipe with the exception of the spinach and reducing the crushed red pepper flakes slightly. Like many others, I used Kale and it is a perfect substitution. I reduced the red pepper flakes to approx. 3/4 teasp. so that my 1 1/2 year old granddaughter could eat it. Our only complaint was that the base was thin and needed to be thickened a little before serving. Thanks for sharing!

Herbed Biscuit Knots

Excellent if you leave out the salt. I followed other reviews and omitted the salt and I can't imagine adding the 1/2 teaspoon called for. Everyone loved these. They have been requested several times. Thanks for sharing!

Pumpkin Waffles with Apple Cider Syrup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
Spiced perfectly and the texture of the waffles were fluffy and light with a light crunch on the outside. The syrup is delicious. I had fresh pressed cider (pressed 1 day before making these) and the flavor was incredible. Slightly tangy, sweet and the right consistancy. Thanks for sharing!

All-Bran Cranberry Crumble Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
This cake is perfect. Very moist and the sweet/tart combination is spot on. The bake time was 40 minutes in my oven. I was a little worried when mixing the cereal/milk with the egg/butter because it never really combined well but just continued on with the recipe and all worked out fine. I added a tiny drizzle of confectioners sugar and lemon juice (we love cranberry/lemon combination) after cooling. I am very happy to have found this recipe, as it will be a wonderful addition to our Thanksgiving and Christmas breakfast table.

Quick Brussels and Bacon

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
Yum! I am the only one that really enjoys brussel sprouts but everyone tried these and said they would eat them again. I loved them! I used fresh sprouts and just steamed them for a few minutes before putting them in the pan. I skipped the olive oil and just used a small amount of the bacon drippings. I also added salt and pepper to taste and cooked these until they were nicely caramelized. Delicious. Thanks for sharing!

Fried Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
It just doesn't get any easier than this. When I prepare baked potatoes, I always throw a couple extra in the oven to have later in the week for this super simple, super fast, flavorful side dish. I just peel them, chop them and add them to the pan with a diced onion, a little salt, pepper, onion and garlic powders and paprika. Everyone loves them. Thanks for sharing!

Super Simple Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
Super Simple is right! For only having three ingredients, these are great. The sour cream adds a slight tang to the flavor and keeps them moist and tender. I doubled the recipe and it worked out perfect. Everyone enjoyed these and we will make them again. Thanks for sharing!

Penne with Pancetta and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
Everything we love (pasta, bacon and mushrooms) in one dish! This was prepared and on the table in under 30 minutes. I used what I had on hand - linguini in place of the penne, bacon for the pancetta and added 1 seeded and chopped Roma tomato at the very end for a little freshness. I also used half baby bella and half white mushrooms. Freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano put it over the top. My only complaint is that if I had not prepared 1 1/2 times the sauce, it would have been too dry for us. Flavorful comfort food that will prepared often. Thanks for sharing!
