About this Cook
I'm a freelance writer and also a Mom who loves to cook. I like to find ways of mixing homestyle American cooking with healthy and international approaches, bowrrowing the best from each.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are soups and stews. Hearty, soul-warming foods that fill the house with wonderful smells. Topping these lists are chicken soup, and beef stew.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I like to cook with my daughters, ages 6 and 12 years. We like to pitch in together and make mexican feasts, with rice, "unfried" beans, and our healthy version of chimichangas with various fillings. YUM!
My cooking triumphs
I felt triumphant when I cooked a Christmas dinner for 14, featuring filet migon as the main course and apple pie for dessert. Everyone clearly enjoyed it.
My cooking tragedies
Another Christmas dinner, I made a lamb roast. My, but it was chewy! Everyone ate the Polish sausage side dish instead...

Easy Granola Bars
These are the best granola bars I have tried to make from scratch - and that's saying something, since I've been trying recipes for years. I've made 1 change - I use 1 cup whole oats, and 2 cups quick oats, for a less starchy texture. I mix in choc. chips, dried cranberries, 1 tbs. ground flax seeds, and salted pumpkin seeds. I make it every single week because I feel a bit sad in the morning without one! Thank you for this wonderful recipe!!

Old Man's Turkey Noodle Soup
Use fresh turkey drumsticks - they're cheap, come in an easy to handle pack of 2 or 3 and always available in our local market. Much better result and easier to handle than a leftover carcass which has had most of the flavor cooked out of it already. Follow the recipe as written for best results.
