About this Cook
I am in nursing school, so I am loooving my slow cooker! My grandmother was right...so was my mum.
My favorite things to cook
Chicken cutlets, mashed cauliflower/potato, chicken gravy, macaroni and cheeeeese, chicken and dumplings, chuck roast taco meat, roast chicken with rosemary oil, fried red potatoes with onions and bacon, grilled/poached asparagus, stuffed artichokes, shrimp and rice, african yam soup, any soup really.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Watching my mom wander through the kitchen over and over, sampling dinner...then i know it is really good. Learning my German heritage "traditional" cooking at home. Me, standing at the kitchen window peeling potatoes and watching family pull up in front of the house.
My cooking triumphs
Braciole, African Yam Soup, Chicken cutlets that he said were better than his mom's.
My cooking tragedies
Curry, still can't do it...I just don't get it. Love the smell of curry, can't eat or cook it. Must be just me.

Authentic German Potato Salad
I cut back the sugar...added green scallions at the end with the bacon. I don't like peeled potatoes, this potato salad is supposed to be quick and rustic. I even cooked my potatoes in the microwave (stab them with a knife). The same taste as my oma always made.

Spicy African Yam Soup
I omitted the zucchini. I "skinned" the garbanzo beans . It takes longer to make this way, but I like not having the translucent skins floating around in my soup.

Parmesan and Broccoli Stuffed Potatoes
I cut the microwaved potatoes in half and lined the bottom of a buttered cassarole dish. Mixed the steamed veggies with a red pepper roux, layered that on top of the potatoes. Then topped with shredded cheddar, mozz, and parm. OMG! Thanks for the recipe. Took it and ran with it.
