Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2014
These were very easy to make and delicious! I made sure the butter was very soft before creaming as suggested by another review. Used a very good quality vanilla. Rolled them in coloured sugar before baking. These got devoured by company immediately and had a few demands for the recipe!

Mom's Favorite Baked Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2013
I did make a few changes: -used about 2 tbsp of finely grated red onion in place of the 1/4 chopped onion -in place of the processed cheese I added some mixed grated mozzarella, jalepeno cheddar and swiss -based on the reviews, I baked for 20 mins, then topped it with a panko crust (1 cup panko crumbs, 2 tbsp melted butter, 1/4 grated parmesan) and baked for another 10 mins We really enjoyed the flavour and texture of this. Most of the other recipes I've tried were too dry or lacking flavour, but this one is definitely a keeper

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2013
Loved this recipe, though I did make a few changes -used half oil and half applesauce (extra flavour, less fat) -cut the sugar in half and used 1/2 cup of white sugar and 1/2 cup of brown sugar (it was plenty sweet from the apples and would still be quite good with even less sugar) Baked it in a bundt pan and iced it with a cream cheese frosting (1 package cream cheese, 1/2 cup butter, 4 cups icing sugar and 1 tsp vanilla) - very good!

Lemon Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2013
These were really lovely and I will definitely be keeping this recipe around. Some changes I made - used a cup of dried cranberries (didn't have fresh) and soaked them in hot water to plump them up. Added in the zest and juice of 2 lemons. Skipped the almonds. Made 12 large muffins. The flavour was perfect and the crust on the muffins was so flaky and delicious.

Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2012
Made this last night for a Mexican themed potluck. It was easy to make and tastes fantastic! I did notice after 30 mins of cooking that the butter had mostly pooled in the middle and that the middle wasn't quite cooked but the edges were nice and brown. I tilted the pan around to get the excess butter to the edges and then baked another 5 mins and it was perfect!

White Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2012
These cookies were amazing! I didn't have white chocolate or macadamia nuts so I used smarties but other than that followed the recipe exactly. They were crisp on the edges but nice and chewy...almost exactly like a Subway cookie in terms of flavour and texture!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2010
I've been using this recipe for years. It is my "standby" dessert recipe if I need something quick to make, and it always gets rave reviews!! These brownies are super easy to make, moist and delicious but not too rich. Its hard not to eat the whole pan! The only thing I change is to add about 3-4 tbsp of honey to the icing as I find it makes a more unique tasting icing, and 2-3 tbsp of milk to get it to a thick but spreadable consistency I ran out of cocoa powder once and didn't have enough for the icing so I left it out and and ended up with a delicious vanilla honey icing!

Chocolate Covered Caramels

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
I've been searching for a recipe like this for a year! It was a time consuming and patience-testing recipe, but so worth it! I did use margarine instead of butter and it probably took a half hour of constant stirring to get to the correct temp. I did not have a heavy bottom pot and my stove top cooks hot so I had to be very careful I poured the caramel into two well greased (with butter) 8x8 pans and threw in the fridge to set Pulled them out and warmed to room temp, then ran the bottom of the pan under hot warm and pulled the caramel out with my fingers - not hard as long as the pan is well buttered! I cut the caramel into 2cmX2cm squares and placed them all on wax paper on the countertop I tried using a good quality chocolate but just could not get the correct consistency so I used dipping wafers which were perfect! They melt much nicer (higher wax content) plus the chocolate has a nice sheen when its dry I used a silicon pastry brush to paint the bottom of each caramel, and then painted the top and sides Sprinkled each with a bit of sea salt and they are delicious!

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2009
A co-worker made this recipe and it was so tasty I asked for it! I made 28 cups (seven 4-cup containers) of popcorn with my air popper Used one giant disposal roasting pan from the dollar store and threw the entire batch into the one pan. I did lower the temp to 200 degrees as my oven cooks very hot and cooked for the full hour Next time I will make a little more caramel or use less popcorn so its more evenly coated It was fantastic! Best Caramel Corn I've ever had! It'll make great Christmas gifts!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2008
This is the very best cookie recipe I have ever tried! The cookies always turn out soft and flavourful! My boyfriend's favourite variation is to use chocolate pudding powder instead of vanilla and white choc chips instead of dark or milk I've also tried added chopped caramels and pecans in addition to the choc chips which was a HUGE hit!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
This is my apple pie recipe of choice! I love the uniqueness of pouring the "caramel" over top of the lattice I use a mixture of apples (granny smith for texture and something like a royal gala for taste) I also add cinnamon and a touch of nutmeg to the caramel mixture as I can't pixture an apple pie without those spices! I suggest baking the pie on a cookie sheet covered in tin foil as it can tend to drip and not a fun mess to clean up!

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
I never fail to get compliments on these cookies! They are great as is, or for the non-raisin lovers you can use chocolate chips instead of raisins and they are delicious that way too! They make the perfect "spiced" soft cookie! I do have to cook them for less time than specified in the recipe and at a lower temp but that because I have a very old oven that doesn't heat evenly

Chewy Caramel

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
This recipe was ok but not my favourite, I have another recipe with a flavour that I like better. I cooked it to 235 degrees and it was still way too hard for what I wanted (a soft chewy caramel!) Next time I will cook it to 230 degrees and hopefully get the consistency that I want. I did put this batch in the freezer to crush up and use in cookies as I think it will be great for that

Easy Decadent Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
These are fantastic and so easy! I followed what some other reviewers said and only used 2 to 2 1/2 cups of icing sugar instead of 3, and only used just over 2 cups of chocolate chips I used milk chocolate chips for the truffle to give it a lighter taste and flavoured it with 3 tsps of rapsberry flavouring. I found that it was much easier to roll the truffles if I washed my hands with cold water (to cool them down so the truffle mixture doesn't melt) and then gently patted the water off so my hands were still slightly damp - the water on my hands helped to keep the truffle mixture from sticking to my hands and helped to roll them out into smooth balls. I refrigerated the balls, then spooned melted dark chocolate over them (I had a hard time trying to dip them) and then topped them with a pretty sprinkle of regular white sugar that I had dyed pink with a couple drops of red food colouring They were to die for! Rich but delicious! I'm also going to try other variations like white chocolate centre rolled in oreo cookie crumbs or mint centre rolled in crushed peppermint candies!
