About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Cookies! And Soup.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Everyone in my family cooks. My son is a gourmet cook. My great Uncle was a professional baker. One exception: My dad. Poor dad I think he believed there was a magical meal fairy and I'm not sure he even knew there was a kitchen in our house! I'm working on a family recipe compilation cookbook for our next reunion.
My cooking triumphs
I'm known for yummy cookies. However, any time I change up a recipe to make it my own, that's a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
I've only had one cake not turn out and sadly it was my son's birthday cake this past year. Made a white, two-layer round cake, let it cool. When I began frosting it, the entire thing fell apart! I ended up using the frosting as "putty" to hold it together and renamed it "Earthquake Cake". Son said he didn't mind, that BD cake is largely symbolic anyway. We each ate a piece and then I threw it away so there would be no evidence of my baking failure.

Simple Baked Apples
When I make baked apples I do it in the microwave. Takes about 5 minutes per apple. I do not use sugar, but substitute some of my Torani flavored (for lattes) syrup. My favorite flavor is hazelnut, but vanilla works well also. About 1 tblsp will do. I core the apple, place it upright in a glass bowl and pour all the ingredients down the center where the core was. I serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Makes a fast, wonderful and somewhat healthy dessert for a winter evening.

Angel Pudding
Must be a typo: 4 cups (or less) of milk not 6! Why am I so intolerant of recipes with typos? GRRRRR. Anyway recipe sounds like a quick trifle. I'd use pound cake not angel food. Angel food just too sweet for me. Might try this if I were in a fix for a dessert.

Pistachio Cake II
This recipe is a favorite of mine for many years. I bake it in a bundt pan, then split into 3 "layers" putting the frosting between each layer. Because there is no frosting for the top of the cake, I dust it lightly with powdered sugar. It's a fun cake to make for St. Patrick's Day!
