About this Cook
I am the original 30 Day Gourmet. I created the book, the recipes, the charts, etc. I have not been part of that organization for a number of years, but have done quite a bit of catering, cooking for large groups (300 or less), and still enjoy cooking for my family and friends. I also own and operate a riding stable and make horses available to children with disabilities and 4H kids, and also teach riding lessons to 25-30 students each week. I also work part time for a small animal veterinarian.
My favorite things to cook
I really enjoy making interesting twists on old favorites, or elevating the mundane into something special.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother would have an omelet buffet every Easter. She would invite the neighborhood and other friends. She would have the counter tops filled with bowls of wonderful fresh ingredients and guests were given a clear punch cup to fill with their favorite items. She would then use those ingredients to create a personalized omelet for each person. I always chose shrimp, avocado, tomato, and cheese.
My cooking triumphs
My favorite triumph right now is providing great meals at my family's annual reunion. We rent a facility that has enough room for all of us, but only has a couple of small microwave ovens and refrigerators - no oven! It takes a little doing, but it is a fun challenge, and I love to see them devouring the end product!
My cooking tragedies
I once made a recipe for horse treats that were so smelly that even the horses wouldn't eat them.

Zucchini Cornbread
definitely use yellow summer squash if the eaters are picky about green flecks in their cornbread. I freeze shredded yellow squash just for baking.

Fabulous Fargozas
as really good. I only had ground rosemary, not the dried "stemmy" rosemary, so I used 2 teaspoons instead of a tablespoon and it was still too much. Next time I'll use one teaspoon - still very good and I will make them again! Thanks for a new recipe.

Korean BBQ Chicken Marinade
Great! Did not have chili paste, so added a pinch of red pepper flakes to the liquid before bringing to a boil. Awesome.
