About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Anything I haven't tried to cook before. I also LOVE to bake desserts and pies and am learning how to make excellent pie crusts, pizza crust, bread, and cakes. Getting the dough just right for these homemade things is the trick!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We don't really have any, so I'm starting my own.
My cooking triumphs
I just cooked my fourth Thanksgiving turkey, with great success! Several people kept nibbling on it all night long. I taught myself everything I know pretty much. I'm also proud of helping two of my roommates get started cooking and experimenting, and they have since found they are great at cooking as well!
My cooking tragedies
When I began cooking and experimenting I made an italian pie for my brother and sister that burnt. I hardly ever see them and they still think that I'm an awful cook; my sister still talks about how "gross" the italian pie was. My mom also laughs at me when I tell her I can cook (she lives far away too) even though everyone that knows me LOVES my cooking!
Recipe Reviews 3 reviews
I made this filling recipe (doubled it) with store-bought shells. I drained my whole-milk ricotta two days, and I used pure almond extract with water as per the tip (doubled this) and added it to taste, so the filling would not become too runny. Omitted almonds. It was delicious and a hit at my best friend's bridal shower!

Baked Ziti I
I liked this; just finished a huge plate of it. But it was not the amazing taste or flavor I expected from reviews. I thought I should season the meat, but decided to just follow the recipe to the letter (besides adding a dollop of tomato paste and some fresh basil to the sauce). I wish I would have followed my instincts. I think some salt, pepper, garlic, sage, thyme, oregano, etc. in the meat would have enhanced the flavor. I also thought perhaps I would have had different results with a more expensive, flavorful spaghetti sauce, and that was why the recipe by itself was so great. Hopefully next batch (since it's so huge!) will be more flavorful.

Three Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies
I didn't get this recipe from allrecipes but found this same one in a recent Parents magazine. I, like another reviewer, wanted to make my hubby a quick dessert and surprise him. It made about 12 and he LOVED them! He ate six that night.
