Chocolate Chip Banana Bread I

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2012
Years ago I happened upon banana chocolate chip muffins in a bakery and fell in love with the flavor combination. This is a very close approximation of a recipe I've been using for a while (but lost in a move). It's very tasty; I actually like it best a few days old, toasted, with a very thin schmear of butter. It got to be a bit of a tradition with some friends on cool autumn weekends. The one thing I would change is to only to mix about half of the chocolate chips in the batter, and after pouring about 2/3s of the batter into the pan, sprinkled on most of the remaining, then sprinkling the very last on top before placing in the oven.

Simple Beef Short Ribs

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
Very simple, but delicious; it's all but throwing it all in a pot and letting it cook. The onions melt away, making for a simple sauce. Works very well with a cheap roast cut as well, and for a slow cooker. I alter it sometimes by adding mushrooms and carrots and other veg you'd add to a beef stew or pot roast.

Syracuse Salt Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2012
I grew up with this recipe in upstate NY, with new potatoes that were in the ground just hours before. Make sure you do NOT peel or cut the potatoes; doing so will make the dish inedible. New potatoes are smaller than a chicken's egg; this recipe simply won't work with larger potatoes. And use unsalted butter.
