This bread recipe is great. I've been looking for a soft, whole wheat bread recipe for my bread machine for a few weeks and all that I had tried so far were too dry and heavy. Not so with this one! It was very soft, light and sweet! I did change it a bit -- my son is allergic to dairy so I left out the dry milk powder and I didn't even notice the omission. I also used 2 Tbsp of canola oil instead of the shortening because we try to avoid partially-hydrogenated oils (trans fats) at all costs. I would have substituted it with butter but couldn't because of the dairy issue. Canola oil worked great. I also substituted 1 cup of bread flour/2 cups of ww flour for the 3 cups of ww flour to make it a bit lighter. All in all, this recipe was great (we finished the loaf in one day)and I will continue to make it for my family. Thanks to MELH for submitting this recipe!!
