Apple Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
I followed the recipe almost exactly. The only ingredient I didn't have was the ginger and I actually think the pie would taste odd with the ginger so I'm kind of glad I left it out. My husband LOVES apple pie and has been raving about how this pie turned out. It was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend it!!!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
If I could give this recipe 10 stars I would! This was my first attempt at Chicken Pot Pie and I had a lot to live up to since my mother-in-law's chicken pot pie is amazing. I followed some of the other reviewers suggestions and made the following minor changes: used rotisserie chicken breast which I cut up and layered in the pie after the veggies. I also added cut up potatoes and did not use celery because I simply don't like celery. I also used garlic powder instead of celery seed. I made sure to also season everything with plenty of salt & pepper as well as the garlic powder. I also added a chicken bouillon cube to the boiling water with the veggies. I think next time I'll add corn to the mix but I followed the "sauce" portion of the recipe exactly and it turned out perfect, not too runny and not too dry! HIGHLY recommend this recipe, even to those who are new to cooking as I am! :)

Tabbouleh I

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2010
Boiling the bulgur is not necessary. Just put an amount of dry bulgur in a bowl and add the same amount of water and let it sit for 30 or so minutes - no cooking necessary. While the bulgar sits soaking in the water I chop up all my other ingredients, which for me is cucumber, tomato (the outside edge, not the juicy fleshy inside part), red or yellow onion, and LOTS of parsley. The mint can be overwhelming so I don't add it. I also add a lot of salt and put much more lemon juice than olive oil, but that's because I prefer the lemon taste. Great basic recipe, though!

Baked Ziti I

The sour cream is a great ingredient, this is the best baked ziti that I've had! One of our favorite meals.

Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2010
This recipe was such a big hit! I made it recently into two 8-inch round cakes and took each cake to a different event....everybody loved them! They are a perfect dessert for summer, so light and airy. I make it following the recipe exactly and I sprinkle lemon zest on the top of the cake for decorative purposes. You MUST try this cake (if you like lemon, of course)!!!

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
Absolutely love this recipe. The great thing about chili is that you can add things you want and omit things you don't want....so I didn't put bell pepper or sugar in mine and instead added a chopped jalepeno. Also, I cooked the ground beef with onion and some spices before putting it in the crock pot so it added some good flavor! Rather than adding tomato juice, I just used the juice one from of the cans of beans and it turned out perfect, not to liquid-y and not too thick. Fantastic recipe! Big hit with my husband!

Mendi's Favorite Orzo

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
This is my go-to favorite side dish (and sometimes the main dish!). My husband and I love this dish, but I always add a lot of garlic and garlic salt to season it. So tasty and SO SO SO easy to make:)

Albino Pasta

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2009
Like many of the other reviewers I added red pepper flakes and I also addd a dash of italian seasoning. I had the issue of the parmesean cheese clumping at the end, but it was still tasty! I didn't add any veggies to the pasta and I think next time I will have it as a side dish to chicken rather than as a main dish. Simple and yummy! And a husband-pleaser:)

Penne with Chicken and Asparagus

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
I put 3 cloves of garlic in this recipe, plus added a lot of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper and there was still a lack of flavor. I put mushrooms in this recipe, as was suggested by the person who posted the recipe + other reviewers. My husband liked the recipe and there are a lot leftovers, which is nice. But I have to think of some ways to add some flavor to this dish. I actually would have preferred it without the chicken at all.

Cream Cheese Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
Too many eggs in this recipe. Wasn't all that great. I probably won't use this recipe again. Although my husband said that he liked them, I'm pretty sure that he was just being nice!

Easy Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
Made this once before and, just as everyone else has mentioned, took a while to cook. Will make it again tonight with a few adjustments: will cook covered with foil for most of the time and just take foil off at the end; put far less flour; more milk; add onion and garlic powder and maybe some chili powder; will use shredded cheese rather than slices. Was yummy with mozzerella though. Don't really know why some reviews say that the water just floated at the bottom, mine turned out edible and pretty yummy. With some alterations, I think it will be very yummy tonight!

Overnight Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
Followed the recipe exactly. My family all loved them and I didn't even get a chance to have any myself! Looks like I'll have to make them again. But next time I will use walnuts instead of pecans, just a personal preference.

Cherry Cobbler Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
Used to put in Easter-goodies basket for my family and my future in-laws. Followed the recipe exactly. I did (2) 6-muffin batches in the normal sized muffin pans but next time I would do (3) batches. Also, I just guessed and used a box white cake mix because I was not sure what "all-purpose baking mix" meant. These turned out great. Everyone loved them. They were soft in the center and the streusel topping was yummy! Will definitely make these again.
