About this Cook
I'm 23 years old and when ever I have a spare minute, I'm in the kitchen cooking or baking something. I'm married to a wonderful man who is in the United States Navy and who will eat anything I put in front of him. Which is probably why cooking is so fun for me. I'm a substitute teacher and an accounting temp. I have a BBA in management & accounting. I keep busy and cooking is my way of winding down.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking pasta dishes! I also really enjoy getting to use my crock-pot, so slow cooking recipes are always worth a try in my book. Whenever I have the time, I love trying new recipes that I think my husband will love. My weekends are spent picking veggies and cutting herbs out of my garden. I love trying to find recipes to utilize my home grown ingredients. I just recently made my first blackberry pie, I even made the crust! I must say, it was absolutely heavenly.
My favorite family cooking traditions
One tradition that has been passed down in my family (from my great grandmother), has been a wonderfully delicious Shepard's Pie. It is tradition in my family to make it the day after Thanksgiving. It is so comforting and really uses up those thanksgiving leftovers!
My cooking triumphs
I just recently tried baking a rum cake (a recipe I got from this site) for a party and everyone RAVED over it. My proudest moment so far. :)
My cooking tragedies
I seriously messed up mashed potatoes. It was a lumpy mess. But my husband still ate them, talk about love! ha ha.

Hash Brown Quiche
I live with my boyfriend and cooking for two is always a challenge for me. I'm constantly making too much food. This recipe is so tasty and can be easily made for two people! I used two 4-oz ramekins and reduced the recipe by a third on all the ingredients. I added about 1/8 cup of red and green peppers chopped and a little Parmesan cheese. I also read the other reviews and heated my hash browns on the stove top first with a little onion, salt and pepper before I baked the crust. I also topped with a little extra cheddar cheese and some fresh parsley about 5 minutes before it was done. It was really delicious!

Golden Rum Cake
I've just recently started cooking and this recipe was SO easy AND it tastes delicious! I brought this to a friend's house for christmas and it was a huge hit! I had people asking me for the recipe! It's a moist cake that just leaves you wanting more. I will definitely be using this recipe many more times!
