About this Cook
I'm known as Chef Junior in my house. I take after my father and my mother. My mother cooks by the book, while my father on the other hand is a whacky free-spirited cooks whatever is in the house kind of cook. One of my favorite shows is Iron Chef America, it is inspiring.
My favorite things to cook
Homemade Chex-Mix; I have about seventeen different ingredients and add one new ingredient every year. I have been making this scrumptious snack since kindergarten and make it every Christmas. I love New England style hot dog rolls (we didn't have these buns in California) and make them all the time during the summer. They taste great when buttered and grilled. My newest variety is cajun and India meets Mexico popcorn. I love making enchiladas stuffed with meat or pulled chicken. Tacos are also one of my favorite meals, (I always super stuff them, but they come out delicious!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love making my grandma's mac 'n cheese. It is a hot flavorful dish during the cold winter. As I mentioned before, I make a homemade chex-mix every year. During the holiday season, I love to bake. The recipe that my mother taught me was pizzelles. They are thin italian anise cookies that look like snowflakes and go great with tea!
My cooking triumphs
I triumph in the kitchen when I cook mexican food. I acquired my talent from having a mexican nanny and because mexican food is a big influence in Los Angeles. I love cooking anything that's mexican like: chicken or beef enchiladas, over-stuffed tacos, frijoles (refried beans), steak or chicken milanasa (breaded cutlets), mexican rice, and aji de gallina, which is my favorite peruvian dish.
My cooking tragedies
When I was younger, my mother and I were making mac 'n cheese. She told me not to lift the mixer up out of the white sauce. I was curious to find out what would happen. When she left to go get another ingredient, I lifted the mixer. Opps! BIG MISTAKE!!! The cheese sauce went flying everywhere, including into our dinning room. When Mom came back in she and I laughed hysterically.
