Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2012
This is excellent. I agree with other reviewers that you must add an additional 1/2- 3/4 cup of liquid to the gravy and add the veggies directly to it. Also, I boiled the veg in chicken broth and used a seasoned roasted cooked chicken, which I added to the mixture directly at the end, just before putting in the pie crust. Cooked at 375 for 45 minutes?

Pesto

Reviewed: May 25, 2012
I followed this recipe closely and found the result very flat. The proportions are right, but it needed lemon juice and salt, and I think it is better with toasted pine nuts.

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
Great flavor combinations and super easy to prepare. My guests loved this app. I think you could easily go without the cheese as well - the tomato mix carries the dish well.

Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
Very good and easy recipe. I used some of the advice from other reviews and used cheese and garlic crutons instead of bread and maple breakfast sausage. The whole thing turned out great. I did not need to cook it for as long as suggested, so keep an eye on yours while it is cooking to make sure you don't overcook it.

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
Easy, excellent snack. Others suggested using gallon sized bags to coat the pecans, but I had no trouble with using bowls. Either way, this is super easy and the pecans turn out great.

Fresh Blueberry Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
I gave this 5 stars because the taste was perfect! I think it is lacking a thickening agent. And the directions are unclear. I used 1.5 cups of fresh blueberries and 1.5 cups of frozen and it turned out great. I also used a pie crust recipe from this site ("Grandma's Pie Crust") and it just turned out great. Since I made my own crust and included a top crust, I cooked the whole thing for 25 minutes at 350 and served it warm. With a scoop of vanilla ice cream, this is one of the best pies I have ever had.

Pumpkin Ravioli

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
Great recipe! I took the advice of the first reviewer and added cream cheese and garlic to the filling mixture. I also threw in some fresh ground ginger. I used pumpkin pie filling rather than just pumpkin and I think that may have made it too sweet. I think this recipe would have turned out perfectly if I had a pasta roller, because I just couldn't get the pasta thin enough.

Butternut Squash Soup II

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
I thought this was a very nice soup. I thought the chicken flavor was a little too strong, so next time I will try it with vegetable broth instead. I also added a dash of cayenne pepper which gave it a nice warmth.

Southwestern Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
This is a good recipe, but I agree with some of the other reviewers that it needs more spice and less oil. I used whole wheat pasta and it was a big hit with my guests. Better on day 2 after it has marinated a bit.

Chocolate Sandwich Cookies II

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
I gave this a 3 because my guests really seemed to enjoy these. I didn't care for them - I found them very bland and though the interior filling didn't quite go with the cookies. However, they are pretty and look impressive.

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
This is a good recipe, but the tips that other reviewers made actually make it even better. 1. Allow the sheet cake to cool for a while so that it is not hot to touch, or the dough will get too sticky. 2. You don't need an entire container or frosting - I used about 2/3 of the bottle. 3. Chill the balls for at least 2 hours before dipping 4. You can use any chocolate plus a few tablespoons of crisco for the coating I think this would be fantastic made with lemon cake mix, lemon icing, and white chocolate. I'm going to try that next.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
This is excellent. The ginger is such a nice touch. This is a guaranteed hit if you're making it for anyone who already likes meatloaf. I am usually somewhat indifferent to meatloaf, but this one is really nice! It is by far the best one I've ever had and I will stick to this recipe in the future.

Overnight Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
This recipe turned out well, but it did not seem quite as outstanding as others reported it to be. I agree with one other reviewer that there is too much nutmeg.
