Creamed Beef for SOS

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
I created this for supper one night when I didn't have anything else to cook but had all the ingredients on hand. Nothing fancy but really good - the whole family liked it! I added some red pepper flakes in it just for some added taste. Served it over biscuits, all of it was gone in a matter of minutes. Will make again :)

Sweet Lime Iced Tea

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2009
This is a wonderful twist to the tea my family & I always drink (regular black tea). We usually do 1c of sugar for a gallon but I found it necessary to add the extra 1/2c because of the limes' flavor. My fiance wasn't too fond of it (he's not a lime person) but my son and I thought it was wonderful! I may try to add a some lemon juice in there next time (2 lemons & 2 limes) just to see how that goes. Thanks for the recipe!

Bacon Cheese Fries

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2009
Just made these, they were awesome! Added some soul seasoning to the fries (always do) and some chili powder. Use bacon bits instead of regular bacon. Left out the onion b.c my son doesn't care for them. Served them with sour cream and hidden valley ranch ranch seasoning mixed together. Will make again!

Grands!® Monkey Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2013
We loved this. Made it as directed, minus the raisins and walnuts (no one here will eat them but me.) I had no problem with the brown sugar mixture but as soon as my bread was done, I flipped it on a plate and let it sit there 10 minutes (still in the pan) so that the mixture would 'harden' onto the bread, not in the bundt pan. This one turned out so much better than the last monkey bread recipe I tried. Definitely a keeper!

Crispy Garlic-Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2012
Tried this recipe tonight. Had to sub the Italian panko with lemon pepper panko and the parm cheese with cheddar - all we had on hand. Everyone loved it. The pasta however...bombed. After originally tasting it (no flavor, just straight up basil in my opinion), we added some cheddar cheese, salt and pepper to it. Helped it some but I would not eat it again (my boys liked it alright but the hubby and I said no.) I'd cook the chicken again. The spare sauce will be stored, not put on pasta.

Curly-Q Grilled Sausages

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2013
Like Deb C, I didn't cut the spirals close enough. However, that did not matter! These were amazing. I fixed 10 using Mild & 4 Cheese Johnsonville Italian Sausage. Between 3 adults and 2 kids, there were gone in a few minutes (I am not ashamed that I ate two and my six year old declared they were better than hotdogs!) Had my first with mustard but realized they are perfect even without toppings. My husband said we'd definitely make them again and I'd like to experiment with various sauces on them while cooking. Thank you for another no fail recipe Chef John!

Quick Pumpkin Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2013
This was a nice change from the regular pumpkin roll we eat every year. I only had two issues with this, which is why I gave it 4 stars. One, 3 cups of confectioner's sugar was way too much for our liking. I tasted the icing at 2 cups and it was already much sweeter than expected. 3 cups was just entirely too much (I'm sure there are some out there with a sweet tooth that would love that much, just not us.) Two, I had issues with the cake falling apart. Every time I cut a slice, it would break in half. Definitely a moist cake with good flavor but it just didn't want to stay together. Overall, I'd probably make it again and use my own recipe for the icing. I'm also going to search around for a way to help it not fall apart next time. Thanks for the recipe Claire!

Hot Chocolate Mix

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2013
Made this for my boys this morning and they loved it! It wasn't too sweet (like most mixes we have) and was great for a rainy, cold morning. Will make again!

Dried Beef Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2010
This was amazing. My sister had made it for me a few times but I had no idea on measurements until I found this on AR. I didn't use the monosodium glutamate or onion salt but it still tasted just like hers (which included those.) Added another 1/2 onion just because I love their flavor. I also took the advice of someone else on here and washed the salt off the dried beef before chopping it up. My 4 and 1 year olds also loved this - will make it again!

Cheese-Stuffed Giant Meatballs

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2012
First off, I must say it could have used a lot more seasoning (we added some more salt, pepper and garlic after first tasting it which greatly improved the overall dish.) My two boys scarfed theirs down (always a good sign.) Might try another cheese next time (this one ended up too hard for my liking) but overall, not too bad.

Parmesan Fondue

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
I loved this. The only adjustments I made were I added a dash of black pepper to it, used garlic powder instead of garlic salt & used it on pasta as some others suggested. Will make again!

Japanese Style Deep Fried Shrimp

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
Amazing recipe. I tried frying my shrimp just like this after buying panko for a Chicken Parmesan recipe I found on here. Turns out great every time - my 4 y/o and picky husband loved them as well! (As another person stated, its best to let these sit at least 4-5 minutes while letting your oil heat up. The breading adheres better this way.)

Easy Venison Meatloaf

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2013
Made this tonight, exactly as stated. I admit, I was a bit skeptical about the amount of water and stuffing that it called for. It turned out much better than I expected. My oldest son and husband loved it. My youngest wouldn't touch it after a bite and I thought it had a nice flavor. The only thing I'd change is swap out 1 lb of the ground venison burger for ground venison sausage (something I do for all my meatloaves normally to add more flavor) and cut down on a little bit of the stuffing (the seasoning in it was a bit much with the barbecue.) The barbecue was much more predominant than what I usually taste in my regular meatloaf with ketchup. Very nice change!

Grands!® Mini Pizzas

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2013
We really enjoyed these. The only Grands we had on hand today were the flaky ones. I didn't think it would turn out right using those but they were pretty good! Gave it a slightly sweet flavor but we didn't mind. Followed the recipe as written, only difference was I cooked the biscuits 5 minutes, pulled them out, topped them and cooked for the remaining 5 minutes. All the guys agreed to having them again!

Classic Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
My whole family loved this pie. Turned out a little darker than I'd have liked (I was unsure when to quit baking it) but I will definitely cook it again!

The Best Ever Chicken Nuggets

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
Good recipe for beginners. We dip our chicken in flour, then egg & lastly panko (which is what we put all the seasonings mentioned in plus some Italian seasoning.) This makes it a little less messy/soggy in my opinion. Letting all the chicken set up after being breaded (5 minutes or so) helps it really stick.

Cookies 'n' Creme Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
This turned out great. Do NOT take anyone's advice to melt the white chocolate in a microwave as opposed to the stove. I smelled something burning and happened to look over and see the top completely black. Thankfully I was able to salvage the rest of it (the bottom also burned). Besides that though, everything went well. Make sure to coarsely chop up the oreos as well (I did mine into 4 pieces each). Throw away all the loose crumbs to prevent your fudge from looking gritty/chalky.

Rich N Creamy Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
I never give bad reviews but I really, really didn't care for this. Neither did my hubby or my son. It has great reviews and I followed the recipe to a T but all I could taste was sour cream. Great texture but just no flavor. Not sure if I'll make it again or not - if I do, I'll definitely substitute the sour cream for milk or cream and I might add bacon or other ingredients suggested by others.

Affogato with Cold-Brewed Coffee

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2013
This was just what I needed today! I prepared the coffee last night and threw this together at lunch today (after my morning, this was definitely a lunch time deal, lol.) The taste was great, not too sweet and not the least bit bitter. I wouldn't change a thing. Definitely a winner in my book, I plan on fixing it again soon!

Bacon, Herb and Cheese Snack Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2012
We very much enjoyed this bread & it's versatility. The only thing I'd change is the seasoning. It made so much bread, the proportions for the seasoning just weren't enough for us. I'd probably double the Italian herb seasoning (I imagine for those who like more subtle flavors, the current measurements would be perfect.) Can't wait to use it for sandwich bread tomorrow!
