...for slow cooked meals to get a little easier. Well, I was wrong. All my adult life, I've sworn by my old crock pot. I've cooked hundreds of meals in it. I like being able to walk away from my food without risking it burning and the great flavors it helps build in the dishes I prepare in… MORE

Ice Cream? Fruit Salad? Lemonade? All of the above and then some, if Summer means hot days and cool treats. A new season is quickly approaching and with that, so is the heat! I live in the South. It gets down right miserable here some days. With that being noted, I'll never claim to be a… MORE

Today, while working, I got to thinking back on some nightmares from my kitchens' pasts. Because what better way to get in the mood for preparing supper tonight than to think of all the times you had to go for takeout because you didn't get it right!I was leaning towards a pasta dish. That,… MORE

(But with worse lighting)After debating a bit, I figured it was time to come to terms with something that drives me absolutely crazy. I have had DREAMS about this, it bothers me so much. Food photography - the bane of my existence here on AR. Every day I log onto Allrecipes and am immediately… MORE

Hello everyone out there in AR world!  It has been quite awhile since I last posted here. Life has been a whirlwind for us lately, we don't get much of a break (not that I'm complaining but its been crazy.) As an Allstar, my duties had slowed down during the holidays and I've been playing… MORE

This month, we were paired up with two amazing companies - Johnsonville & Ore-Ida. Now let me say this before anything else: I am very honest about products and what I do and do not like. I have been a fan of both of these companies for years. So this was one of the easiest assignments I've… MORE

This month for the Allstars program, I had the pleasure if trying Bison for the first time. We were definitely excited to venture out our comfort zone and the results were better than we expected!  I ended up with Bison pepperoni - never knew it existed until this month. I expected a huge… MORE

Hello everyone! I've been hiding in a hole the past few months but thanks to the Allstars program, I had to emerge for a bit to tell you about this month's activities. I have to say, in the year I've been an Allstar, this was one of my very favorite months! Not only did I pick up an amazing… MORE

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! The Nettles household most certainly did. The food was great as was the company; the boys got everything they wanted and then some. For me, besides spending time with everyone I love, the next greatest thing was the gift my husband and his boss… MORE

Last week, I received some bad news that hit me pretty hard. After two years of hard work and dedication to my at-home job online (helping run a pretty big game forum), I was abruptly laid off. Without notice, we were outsourced to another company to help with lowering their budget. I of all… MORE

About Me
Hello! I'm Faith, a 27 year old work from home mom to two sons (8 & 5.) I'm married to my best friend, Michael. We've been together for 10 years now. I'm not sure how he's dealt with me this long! I mainly cook for my family and a few close friends. I love them all for being my willing guinea pigs. I'm not the best by any means but I love to try anything new.
My favorite things to cook
Most of the stuff I cook could be considered comfort food. Not the healthiest method of cooking but if I can substitute something with a healthier alternative I'll do so. Growing up my family's weekly menu was pretty small. Venison, chicken, hamburger, veggies - anything my parents could hunt, grow or make. Growing up on a farm definitely had its ups & downs. A variety of food was not in the "up" category. I always wanted to try something new but their income said otherwise. We couldn't afford to try something we didn't like and didn't finish. Now that I can enjoy both homegrown and purchased ingredients, I am willing to try anything new that sounds good to my family and I.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Two sweet potato pies and a turkey are mandatory at Thanksgiving while white chocolate fudge and a ham is a must during Christmastime.
My cooking triumphs
Barbecue pulled pork, venison meatloaf & homemade butter biscuits.
My cooking tragedies
I will never forget the absolute worst thing I have ever cooked, a Manicotti dish. It was right after we got our own place back in 2005 and I was going to be brave and try something that wasn't Hamburger Helper or grilled cheese sandwiches. It had too much basil, the noodles didn't finish all the way and the sauce blackened at the end. We tried to choke it down but ended up getting takeout. Since then, I think my skills have vastly improved!
