Being the oldest in a large family, I started coking at age 8. I love to find recipes with small amount of ingredients and low prep time, receipes you can improvise with(I rarely cook an item the same way), I like to make my own dressings, condiments & seasonings, convert older recipes to low calorie.
My favorite things to cook
Greens (I combine collards, mustard, turnip and some others)and I always varying the meat I use (psmoked pork chops, bacon, ham hocks). I like spicy food (garlic and onions are staples for me); cornbread from scratch (I like trying different versions0; chili and I cannot live without my crock pot. I just srted using a new one (my old one was over 30 years old).
My favorite family cooking traditions
Don't have any.
My cooking triumphs
Baked my first turkey at age 9. Anything new thing I try to make and suceed at is a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
I can cook almost anything but have yet to master making good gravy. I think it has to do with the wrist action when stirring before you add the liquid. I've never really mastered baking cakes or pies (from ages ago) but this year will try my hand atmaking a cake, a pie and bread from scratch.
