About this Cook
I have been married since 1988 and have 2 teenage boys. We entertain a lot in the warm weather months. My husbands business is in an area of Kansas City that hosts a monthly art crawl called First Friday. We let artists use our space on First Fridays to show their work. Our home is a place where the kids and their friends like to hang out and I love it. I sell real estate. When I list a home I have realtor open houses and offer lunch to bring agents in to see the home. I usually serve something homemade.
My favorite things to cook
I love casseroles, soups and one dish meals. I also love making party food and recipes in large quantities so I can freeze or give away. My favorite recipes include comfort foods with a twist or ethnic foods. I am of Slovenian decent and my husband is Polish. I also love Italian, Mexican and mediterranean dishes. I am starting to enjoy cooking a variety of dishes again now since my children are older and have expanded their taste paletes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I used to watch my grandmother make povitica bread and strudel. She would stretch the strudel dough so thin you could read through it. The finished products would be gone in a matter of minutes. Pierogi is a favorite of my husbands family. They use a cottage and onion filling. My mom and I have come up what we think is the perfect recipe for cabbage rolls which we serve every Christmas.
My cooking triumphs
Party food! If it did not kill my back to stand around and fix food all day I would love to be a caterer.
My cooking tragedies
Overcooking anything! My oven tends to cook things faster than what a recipe calls for so I have to keep an eye on things in the oven.

Waldorf Salad II
Initially this recipe turned out too tart. First,I think I should of used sweeter apples. I cut down the amount of lemon juice and added honey to sweeten it up. I did not have enough raisins for the recipe and I think it I had the right amount that would have made it sweeter as well. The day after Thanksgiving I added leftover turkey and it made a wonderful turkey waldorf salad!
