About this Cook
happy stay at home wife and mommy to 4- aged 5 and under. as you might surmise, our house can be a little crazy sometimes.
My favorite things to cook
anything quick. semi homemade a plus, since my time is short. i love whole grains and veggies and try to avoid too many processed things. as a result of these 2 conflicting ideals, i try to cook in batches, or make a base that can be used in a couple of different ways.
My favorite family cooking traditions
everyone hanging out in the kitchen talking, singing, laughing and dancing while dinner is made and served.
My cooking triumphs
i used to be what i like to call domestically challenged. i swore i would have to marry a chef because i honestly couldnt even heat up a microwave dinner without something going wrong. but my inner 50s housewife woke up when i fell in love with my husband (who, btw, is an excellent cook), and all the sudden i wanted to cook and nurture him, i guess. my first few ventures were not so successful, but i am getting better and better. my mother finds it funny my newfound domesticity, but i think she knew i had it in me all along.
My cooking tragedies
i tend to get distracted, so we have "cajun style" more often than i would like to admit.

Carrot, Potato, and Cabbage Soup
This soup goes over very well in our house, even with 4 picky eaters. The first time I made it I followed the recipe exactly. Delicious. My husband had me set aside a serving for him that was not blended to compare and he prefers it unblended. In the subsequent times I have prepared this recipe I have added whatever vegetables we happen to have in the produce drawer that were on their way out. It has been delicious every time. We typically shred everything instead of slicing them and I don't blend it for the first night, but I do blend the leftovers before I freeze them.
