Wisconsin Slow Cooker Brats

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2013
This recipe is great. I changed a few things to fit my personal taste but the base of this recipe is great. I used half italian sausauge and half brats. I then pan fried them until super crispy. I used one bottle of Guiness Stout, 3/4 cup ketchup, splash of spicy BBQ sauce, and various spices. I added half of a red oinion. I turned the crock pot on high and cooked them for about 3 hours. The texture was perfect. I then put them back in the pan and pan fried them until crispy again. The flavor, aroma, and texture were AWESOME. This one is a keeper!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2013
Made this for Thanksgiving. Not such a good idea. It was just okay. My husband liked the dish but the rest of us (including me) did not like it. The sauce was too cheesy tasting and the consistency was not good, in my opinion. I think this recipe would be better without the cheese and with more spices. Definitely will not make again.

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2013
What is not to love about this soup? It is hearty & robust and it is perfect during the cooler months. The depth of flavor is outstanding. I agree with another reviewer in that this recipe is pretty similar to a Rachael Ray recipe; nonetheless, it still is marvelous. I, too, substituted a can of diced tomatoes for the fresh tomatoes in this recipe. I also purchased frozen tortellini and cooked it off separately and served some soup over a few (4-6) tortellini pieces....perfect. This is an excellent recipe. You will not be disappointed.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2013
I have made this recipe too many times to count. I absolutely adore it. Of course, over time I have added my own flair to it. (1) I cut down the chicken amount to 2 breasts. (2) I poach the chicken alone in a saucepan. (3) I add all of the veg in my dutch oven and cook them until they are very tender in some butter and olive oil. (3) I double the sauce or liquid and add the flour and liquid right to the veg in the dutch oven. I bring it to a simmer and keep letting the flavors blend. (4) I use celery salt, celery seed, a tad bit of poultry seasoning, dill, onion powder, garlic powder---all to taste. (5) I use 2 deep dish pie crusts and fill each of them and then top them each with another pie crust to 'seal the deal'!!. PERFECT. They never last longer than a day. It is ALWAYS gone.

Easy Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2014
This is a good basic recipe. I am not big on biscuits and gravy but my husband loves it. He rated this a 7/8 and said there was too much sausage relative to the gravy. So I think, if I make this again, I will use half of the sausage in the recipe (but all of the grease) and all of the gravy called in the recipe. Overall, a good base recipe.

Excellent recipe. These were great. I used everything per the recipe except the chips. I used half semi-sweet chocolate chips and half butterscotch. Turned out just awesome. I will definitely make again and play around with the pudding and chips.

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2013
As is, the soup is way too watery when blended. I left one can of the beans whole and the other can I pureed. I also did not puree all of the salsa because I like it a bit more chunky. The flavor was just okay. I really wanted to like this recipe as is but it needs so much more for my liking.

Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2013
This soup is EXCELLENT. I added a few of my own spices (onion powder, parsley, etc.) but beyond that I followed the recipe pretty much as is and LOVED it. Definitely a keeper.

Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2015
AH-MA-ZING!! I have made this with a shoulder/butt roast and a pork tenderloin and both turned out excellent. I was worried about the time to cook it-thinking that 16-20 hours must have been a typo--but I was wrong. You really do cook it for 16-20 hours. I did not have the Hawaiian sea salt so I just used coarse sea salt based on another reviewer's post and it worked flawlessly. This is my go-to weekly recipe because it is oh-so easy to make, is affordable, feeds a crowd, and really hits the comfort factor one goes for in a roast. The pork tenderloin is what I prefer for the cut of meat because it is so lean...and can be a wee bit dry....just add some water or stock during the cooking process and it is just perfect. THANK YOU KIKUKAT for this recipe!!

Saltine Toffee Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2014
Really good base recipe. For me and my family, they were TOO sweet and dense. The cracker crunch did come through as much as I had hoped it would. The flavor is REALLY good but they are too heavy of a dessert as is. If I did make this again, I would half the brown sugar topping because as it is, in my opinion, it is too much. Easy recipe and few ingredients make it a desirable recipe.

Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2013
This was just okay for me. It was a bit mushy and the final product had flecks of 'scrambled' eggs in it. I used day old partial loaf of french bread. The amount of liquid in the recipe was just way too much. Read the reviews because several give great tips to combat these problems. I did not have a chance to read through them before I made this.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2013
Fabulous recipe. I made a pan gravy at the end. To do that, I added a couple Tbsp of flour and about a cup (give or take) of chicken stock. I added plenty of freshly ground black pepper and just a dash of garlic powder. I added a splash of milk a few times...total about a 1/4-1/2 cup. The gravy turned out awesome and was a nice touch to the chicken. The dish went FAST so I will have to double next time. Thanks for the recipe!

Haystacks IV

This is a great 'basic' Haystack recipe and it will not disappoint. However, this recipe was 'sticky' at room temperature so it has to stay cooled. I am not sure why.....but beyond that...these are yummy!
