Easy Decadent Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
This recipe was great... so easy! My husband's favorite version of this recipe (and likely mine as well) started with a maraschino cherry in the middle, coated with almond flavoured truffle mix, then coated in melted milk chocolate... YUM!

Black Forest Cheesecakes

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2009
I had both my family and my husband's family over on Christmas day and had everyone bring a sweet treat to set on the table for dessert. There were lots of delicious treats, but this one disappeared first. They were so tasty and very easy to make. I will definitely be making these again, they may even become a Christmas tradition. Thanks for the delicious recipe!

Brunch Strata

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2009
Everyone loved it on Christmas day. I was hoping to take some home for the next day, but there wasn't a crumb left. It will definitely become the Christmas brunch tradition. I love that it is so full of veggies and very moist. Thanks for the delicious recipe!

Award Winning Peaches and Cream Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2009
Very tasty, especially while it's still warm from the oven. I would recommend only making this one if there are enough people to finish off the pie. Though quite moist the first day, it really dried out over night.

One Oh One Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
The bake time really does make a difference with these cookies. The best batch was in for 11 minutes. I thought they might be a little under baked, but after sitting for a few minutes they were quite good. I tossed the first batch that baked for 15 minutes - way too long for these cookies I found. The texture is good and chocolate chips add a nice sweetness that the cookie seems to lack otherwise. Not my favorite, but a decent cookie and a hit with the kids.

Potato and Cheddar Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
This is a good starter recipe for potato cheddar soup. As mentioned by several reviewers it definitely needs a few extras to improve the flavor which would otherwise be very bland. I have a few tips that made the soup very tasty. I always start my potato soups with mashed potatoes; it gives the soup a nice thick texture. I used crisp bacon, 2 cups of sliced carrots as well as the water I had used to boil them, about a half cup sauteed onions, a tablespoon of chicken broth, and a teaspoon of parsley. With plenty of soup making experience now, I also have a tip regarding the cheese. I put the soup on a low heat to let the flavors blend and at that time sprinkled a few tablespoons of the cheese at a time to give it a chance to melt in. Once it's melted in, give it a stir and add a few more tablespoons until it's all added (as a novice soup maker, I made the mistake of sprinkling all of the cheese in at once and ended up with one lumpy mess of a soup; the cheese all clumped together and ended up very gummy, it was terrible).

Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
Wow!! These are unbelievably delicious. I've made them a few times now and have learned one very important thing. Marinate them overnight. The first time I made them the flavor was good but very weak. I made them again and marinated the chicken overnight, then skewered and barbecued them the next day. My parents, my husband and I as well as our two toddlers couldn't get enough. Thank you for the wonderful and incredibly simple recipe.

Marshmallow and Lime Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
Okay, I must admit, when I read the recipe it sounded a lot like some concoction I would have come up with as a kid... those ones you dare your friends to eat. Well, I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. What a wonderful surprise. The appearance isn't much to rave about but the taste is nice and light and sweet. My preference now is to omit the nuts. I found the texture of the mousse like mix and the nuts just didn't quite go together.

Breaded Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
These were a big hit with the whole family! My toddlers couldn't get enough. I repeated the milk and breading steps. Next time, I'll omit the flour when I bread them the second time. I found that the flour left a dry powdery finish. They were still really tasty despite that. The first batch I baked (350 for 30 minutes) I breaded the second time just with crushed seasoned crackers. I will definitely do this again; they were crisp and delicious. One tip, when breading them the second time, don't toss them all back in the wet mixture. The breading just got all clumpy and made them difficult to bread a second time. Next time, I'll do them each separately for the second breading, dipping them one by one and rolling them one by one in the seasoned cracker crumbs. Thanks for the delicious recipe!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2009
WOW! I made these muffins with a few additions. I tripled the recipe (for a large family function) and used 4 cups of berries; an even mixture of blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. Once the batter was all mixed, I filled the muffin cups 1/3 full and put a dip in the middle which I filled with a teaspoon of cranberry cherry pie filling. Then, I put another 1/3 over the pie filling making sure to seal the filling in the batter. I only doubled the crumb topping and still found it to be too much. Next time I'll only make one recipe of the topping. These muffins are absolutely scrumptious!!! If you've ever tried Tim Horton's fruit explosion muffins (my all-time favorite muffin) these are very comparable. MMMM, incredible! Next time I think I'll try a similar version with apples, apricots, blueberries, and blueberry pie filling. I didn't have to adjust temperature or bake time, they turned out perfect. Making sure the filling is sealed in the batter is very important, otherwise the muffins will sink into the filling (only one of the muffins did this thankfully).

Whole Wheat, Oatmeal, and Banana Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2009
Excellent! These are now my favorite pancakes. My husband and toddlers also love them. We like to add a cup of chocolate chips to the batter. I also like them with chopped walnuts, but neither my husband or kids do. These are such a hearty pancake, I don't need to make anything to go along with them. One recipe of these by themselves feeds my family. Thanks for the wonderful, delicious recipe. Oh yeah, the blender works great for grinding the oatmeal!

Mama Bear's Porridge

Great taste and consistency. I beat the eggs and mixed them in while the burner was still on to make sure they were cooked. I also used brown sugar instead of honey. Delicious! Tasted very much like rice pudding.

Dessert Crepes

Reviewed: May 12, 2010
The whole family loves these crepes. For a meal, I fill the crepes with two slices lunch meat and cheesy scrambled eggs. For one dessert, I fill the crepes with nutella and bananas. For another dessert option, I spread some nutella down the center, then a mixture of cream cheese, whipping cream and vanilla spread over the nutella and then chopped up strawberries and bananas. Yummy! Thanks for the recipe.

Strawberry Syrup

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2010
This was so easy and very tasty. I would recommend adding some cornstarch. For the last 2 minutes of the simmer, stir at least a teaspoonful of cornstarch into a tablespoon of cold water and add it to the mixture. Also, next time I'd like to use less sugar. Even on pancakes this was too sweet for us. I'm guessing that half the sugar would be perfect.

Mmmmmm, so yummy! The top inch of the bread that rose above the pan was like a great big delicious chewy cookie. Best banana bread recipe yet.

Cappuccino Cooler

My husband and I love iced coffee and are willing to spend a bit for it when we go out. This surpasses what we've tried so far. Whipping cream and chocolate shavings on top are a must.

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2010
Fantastic for molding characters on birthday cakes and cupcakes. It's a really easy playdough like dough to use and color and play with that the kids can actually take a bite of. It is sickeningly sweet and thus wouldn't recommend letting them eat very much.

These are fantastic. Such a nice mix of flavours. So far I've tried corn flakes and bran flakes for the cereal, both work great.
