I am a disabled police officer who likes to cook new recipes that my guys will like. They are fussy meat and potato guys but are getting better about trying things. They have become my critics!
My favorite things to cook
Everything is that too vague??? Not big on goodies but I am finding things that they like and can snack on instead of having to buy things at the store. I am finding making my own might take a bit more time but it usually tastes better and is much cheaper!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom can't cook and although my mother in law was an awesome cook she passed before I got to learn all her tricks and my hubby reminds me that while I am a good cook he misses some of her southern tricks that I just can't copy.
My cooking triumphs
Hhhhmmmm I suspect that when I ate most stuff from a box or can when I was a kid that just about anything flavorful in the kitchen is a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
Too many to list. Don't we all have failures. I guess if I had one thing I wish I could do it would be fried chicken. I just don't do it well at all. :(

Quick and Easy Peach Cobbler
I didn't read the reviews first (I usually do and wish I had). While I need the extra butter for the calories for my mom, I had way too much liquid and drained off some after the cooking. I will add spices next time and put the peaches in first with a LOT less liquid.

Double Cheesy Au Gratin Potatoes
I love this recipe and have made a version of it with ham for years. For some reason it never crossed my mind to put cheese in it. I will say that I read all the reviews and did put cheese in the middle because my men LOVE cheese in everything. One thing different is that I use seasoned salt in mine and layered it along with the potatoes and now cheese. For Stinalynn heavy whipping cream can be oily when baking. I have substituted milk when I was short on cream and I noticed the difference in the oily top. There was much less. So I added the seasoned salt and garlic powder along with extra cheese...mmmm good!
