About this Cook
Mother of 2, Grandmother of 6, married 42 years to a marvelous person. Started my own business from making Christmas gifts, seen by a store owner and request to make for their store. My business is called Antler and Horseshoe Art, where I design lighting and home decor from antlers, horseshoes and wagon wheels.
My favorite things to cook
Everything, I LOVE to cook, anything from a really good sandwich to cooking for company. Often receive request for lasagna, bread, cakes and cookies. My love for cooking was inherited from my mother who was raised on a farm and she loved to cook and try new recipes. My son has inherited my love to cook and so has his 9 year old daughter who loves to cook and bake. My son is probably a better cook than I am when it comes to jambalaya, gumbos, grilling and venison.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family does not all live in the same town. Before all of the holidays we get together and cook. We each fix our "special" dish. This is great fun as all of the work does not fall on one person and we get to have fun the day before the holiday. Even the grandchildren pitch in and are learning how to fix the family traditional food for each holiday.
My cooking triumphs
A rolled fondant cake in the shape of a hat for a surprise birthday party for my daughter. My 9 year old granddaughter really wanted to help and although very worried about allowing her to help, I agreed. I felt I could not tell her that the cake might not turn out well and how important the appearance of this cake was. This party was very important and many of my daughter's friends from school where she teaches, childhood friends, church friends and friends from some of the boards she serves on, were going to attend the party. My granddaughter kneaded the frosting, added the color, helped put the frosting on the cake and mold it into the shape of the hat. She even rolled strips into beautiful roses. I did not have any of the fancy cutters so we shaped everything by hand. Maybe not my truimph but the most afraid I have ever been cooking. The cake was lovely and I was glad I went with what I felt was the right thing to do and allowed her to do most of the frosting and decorating. It bui
My cooking tragedies
Again, for this special birthday party, I had made sandwich rolls and froze them to bake the day before the event. My grandchildren were there when I pulled the rolls from the freezer. I had made 120 rolls, some whole wheat, some onion and cheese, some plain white and the remainder 7 grain. These children have helped me many times bake bread. I told them to place them on the trays and when they rose we would bake them. My business is in my home and I had customers come, so I left my kitchen to talk with my customers. I was gone almost two hours and when I returned the grandchildren were so proud as they had baked the rolls. They did wait until they thawed, but did not wait until they rose again, so we had small dinner sized rolls that were as heavy as a brick. I laughed and we decided we would turn them into bags of stuffing and freeze. I had that evening to start over and make all of the rolls again.

Shrimp Scampi Bake
Better than at the restaurant. I also have added broccoli and linguine for a complete meal.
