Brown Sugar Smokies

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2012
These are AMAZING! Even better grilled this year then they were baked last year! They were the first thing to go off my superbowl spread. :) Definitely do as others suggested and rub the smokies with half the brown sugar prior to wrapping with bacon. Then skewer and sprinkle the bacon with the remaining sugar before you grill. Thanks for posting!!

White Chili with Ground Turkey

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2012
This turned out really well. I did as some others suggested and added a can of corn but like someone else said - next time I will definitely use FROZEN since canned corn never loses that weird crunchiness. Since others raved about the use of cinnamon, I used the suggested amount but it was definitely overpowering! Not inedible but just really really strong. Scale down to 1/4 or 1/3 unless you are all about the cinnamon. I may substitute nutmeg in place of the cinnamon for a milder flavor next time I try this. I served with chopped green onions, extra shredded cheese, and sour cream. Some tortilla chip strips would have been great addition. All in all, a keeper! Thanks for posting!!

Avocado Shrimp Ceviche-Estillo Sarita

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2012
This was a good base but needs modification. I added quite a bit more lime juice and cilantro, as well as garlic salt & lemon pepper, but it was still missing something. Not sure if it makes a difference but I did use half uncooked white shrimp and half precooked lobster tail pieces. Next time I may add some diced jalepeno. Definitely do not serve with saltine crackers. Pairs best with tostadas (or in a pinch, tortilla chips) guests can pile high. Serve with a slotted spoon or there will be too much liquid. Also serve alongside a bottle of Tapatio so everyone can choose their own level of fire. I'm going to play around with this some more as it has the makings of an amazing ceviche! Thanks for posting!

Slider-Style Mini Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2012
These are AMAZING! They get gobbled up every time I make them within minutes. Here's a way to save some time, work, dishes, etc. After you drain your grease from the beef mixture, return it to your stove top at moderate heat. Mix in the mayo & the cheese and wait until it has all come together & melted nicely until it's an ooey-gooey wonderfully cheesy consistency. Don't use the oven at all! Just use your griddle to lightly toast both sides of the rolls before you assemble. Try to toast as you're doing the other steps so everything will be warm & ready at the same time. (I suppose you could toast first and then keep warm in the oven but it sort of defeats the purpose of the short cut a little.) Then, quickly assemble your sliders and serve immediately! I imagine it will be less greasy/soggy since you don't add the oil to the bread from the foil baking method - not sure since I've never tried it that way. No matter how you make these, they will be devoured in seconds! :) Thanks so much for a recipe box staple!

Best Bruschetta Ever

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
way too cheesy! it almost was paste-like when complete. i ended up with triple the tomatoes and adjusted everything else to taste. added balsamic vin. and some onions as others suggested. a good base recipe for an ingredient list but needs tweaking for sure. thanks for the recipe anyhow.

very authentic and very easy. imho, the dashi and the mirin are essential for real japanese diner flavor. you can buy it in the asian foods aisle of your regular supermarket. thanks for the recipe!

Mom's Coleslaw

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2010
so simple, so good! if you eat it fairly quickly after preparing it, it's a good dressing to veggie ratio. However, the next day it will be pretty wet! if you use a 12 oz bag of coleslaw mix and about 3/4 of the dressing like i did... next time i will try decreasing the sugar to 1/4 cup or less and adding the dressing a little at a time until the veggies are just barely covered. notwithstanding minor adjustments, still a wonderful recipe! thanks for sharing!

Heavenly Halibut

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2010
very good, if a little rich... accidentally added too much butter so i compensated with some sharp cheddar cheese. had a lot of the topping/sauce left over so i made some penne pasta with spinach, grape tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and bacon and just mixed the leftover butter/cheese mixture into the cooked pasta and vegetables. kids & hubby loved it! will try next time to make it a little less rich - decrease mayo, butter, cheese? can't believe how little salt and how flavorful!

Gulliver's Cream Corn

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2009
very good WITHOUT MSG. didn't change it at all - the only thing is that i go in with a masher at the very end to break up the kernels a bit. word of advice - do not try to do this without thawing completely! has been a hit at every holiday dinner for years now. thanks!
