Corn On The Cob (Easy Cleaning and Shucking)

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2013
It's the only way to cook corn on the cob. Having to shuck and desilk is so tiresome - can't imagine why anyone would want to do that when this method is so much more efficient. I love to sprinkle fresh lime juice on the corn after it's cooked instead of butter.

Slow Cooker Carolina BBQ

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2013
Being from the Midwest we were always using Sweet Baby Ray's. After trying the pork I ended up using it on this recipe. I know it's a regional thing and everyone is raving about it, but I guess it's just not for me.

Cornbread Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2012
These just didn't work - the batter was way too thin, and almost no cornmeal flavor at all. I ended up adding an extra 1/4 cup cornmeal and some more baking powder and they turned out okay. I think I'll just stick with cornbread.

Saltine Toffee Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2012
These are so much better using graham crackers instead of saltines.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2012
This is basically the same cookie recipe I use - when I get tired of chocolate (that's hard to believe), I use cut-up dates and nuts. I think dried cherries or apricots would be great too. It's a wonderful base for any cookie you want to invent.

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2012
This recipe was featured as the "Recipe of the Day" around June 12, 2012. With the thousands of recipes available, why would you showcase this recipe twice in such a short period of time? It wasn't that great the first time around. Too salty and no flavor. A waste of an expensive piece of meat.

Wave Your Flag Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2012
Good Cake - I've never made anything quite like it before - jello doesn't exist in my world!! I sliced the strawberries and overlapped them on the frosting to make the stripes more obvious.

Bacon Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2012
This dish had no bacon flavor at all. I was so disappointed in the recipe. The JUICY ROASTED CHICKEN recipe by Robinrockingbird on your site is so much better, easier, and more flavorful with only about 4 ingredients.

Refried Beans Without the Refry

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2012
These were excellent and so easy. I didn't have a jalapeno pepper on hand, so I added chipotle tabasco sauce when the beans were done. My second time making these I added about 3 drops of liquid smoke. Don't know what will happen. BTW - No gas with these!!

Skillet Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2012
This is similar to the recipe I've used for about 30 years now. The one thing I do is to at least double the spices and add more green pepper. It's great if you use both red and green peppers. Never added the tomato paste though, I always use a large can of diced tomatoes. Great with cornbread or even over pasta --

Cinnamon Swirl Bundt Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2011
The cake tastes wonderful - the method of combining the eggs with the sugar and then adding the sour cream and butter is weird. If you add the vanilla at the same time you add the butter, you get a more intense vanilla flavor. I also added about a 1 teaspoon more cinnamon and added the nuts to the cinnamon sugar mixture rather than have them throughout the whole cake. Definitely make it again but will use the standard mixing method - cream butter and sugars, add sour cream and eggs, etc. Also I didn't use the 400 degree temp - just the 350 and baked it until it was done.

Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2011
Amazing, Wonderful, Any adjective I could use wouldn't describe how wonderful this was. I cooked it overnight in my brand new crock pot and my guest raved about it. He took most of the leftovers home with him. I'll definitely make this again. BTW - I also put barbecue sauce on the table for use but it's more than delicious without it.

Green Chicken Enchilada

Very good, easy recipe. The only problem I had was using flour tortillas. Authentic tortillas use only corn and the difference is taste is very noticeably better.

Ethiopian Cabbage Dish

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
Very bland even after doubling the spices. It needs something, but I can't figure out quite what it is. My potatoes took longer to cook even though they were small cubes. I think if I make it again I'll cook the carrots, then add spices and rest of ingredients together. I put the leftovers in the frig and this recipe is GREAT cold.

Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2010
This was a good cookie - but I like the recipe on the back of the chocolate chip bag better. Also, I use the milk chocolate chips and use walnuts, not pecans. And, as much as I love CC cookies, for Christmas i like to do special recipes that I don't make very often, makes it a little more festive and meaningful.

Viennese Crescent Holiday Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
I don't use the vanilla bean - too much work. Just use a good quality pure vanilla extract when you make the dough, I prefer Mexican vanilla. Also, if you use an electric mixer to mix the dough until light, you have cookies that literally melt in your mouth. Amazing. Plus, for a different taste, use toasted pecans or almonds, chopped very fine. For the chocolate, use Belgian Chocolate instead of chocolate chips, a world of difference.

Lemon Pie Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
I've used this exact recipe for years. Butter is a must to get the great crust. I love lemon flavor so I up the lemon zest to almost 2 tablespoons. And, instead of sprinkling with powdered sugar, I use a thin glaze made of lemon juice, zest, and powdered sugar. It's really more lemony that way.

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
This was delicious - best cauliflower I've ever made - used a cookie sheet covered with foil and tossed the ingredients together with two forks. Temperature at 450 and didn't broil it- just sprinkled on the shredded parmesano-reggiano cheese and and baked for 3-5 minutes. The cheese made the whole thing - I can't wait to make this again. Has anyone tried it with broccoli?
