About this Cook
Fat, 50's and Frustrated..... This getting older stuff is for the birds. I am on my own for the first time in my life and must admit that I am beginning to like it. There's just me and the cat, and I like it like that.... I have 3 grown children, 8 grand-children and 3 great-grand- children. I'm disabled, but now that I have my Go-Buggy (Mobility Scooter) there is no stopping me. Life is Good!!!
My favorite things to cook
Chicken and Dumplings, Baked Ziti, Holiday Cooking, Egg Custard Pies, Carrot Cake
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with the little ones is an important tradition in my home. The babies start helping Gramma as soon as they are old enough to pound dough. One of our favorite things to make at Christmas is the Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Sticks with Sprinkles. You've never lived til you make those with an 18 month old......
My cooking triumphs
I've never killed anyone with my cooking. LOL
My cooking tragedies
My kids will be glad to tell you about the time I caught the oven on fire when I put a batch of biscuits in the oven and then forgot and went outside to hang up a load of laundry. My then 6 year old son, called 911 and told the operator that "Could you please send a Fireman to my house? My Mommy is trying to burn the house down." Kids...... Gotta love em... it's the law.....

Country Soup in a Jar
Great recipe... I played with it a bit to make it "Survival" worthy. I dehydrated my own onions, bell peppers, celery and carrots. I put everything needed to make it soup except the water into a quart Mason Jar,placed an Oxygen eater packet on top, sealed it and have a whole meal on my shelf. I make about 10 quart jars of meals in a jar a month for that inevitable day here in Florida when a hurricane knocks out the power for several days or even weeks. With an ample supply of bottled water and my Coleman cook stove, this old lady and her family will be eating good. And hopefully, I will have enough so that I will be able to share the bounty with neighbors who aren't prepared.

Absolutely Ultimate Potato Soup
Great recipe. Good with ham or sausage too. I usually make a double batch. The prepping of the potatoes and onions is no big deal for me. I love making things from scratch and doing all the prep work. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something good. The only change I did to this recipe is I didn't add the tarragon. Tarragon is not my favorite flavor. I find it very distasteful. A pinch of Rubbed Sage adds an interesting taste. Also, I use more Heavy cream. This is on my list of SUPER COMFORT FOODS..... {:0)

Grandpa's Peanut Butter Fudge
Thanks for the great "TRADITIONAL" recipe. I really hate it when people add marshmellow cream and then call it fudge. Our great grandmothers would roll over in their graves...... This recipe rates a 12 on the 1 to 10 scale.
