Pumpkin Black Bean Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
No matter what I tried to add to make this soup better it did not taste very good. No one in my family liked it. I have made soups similar to this one that we have loved.

Whole Wheat Banana Nut Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
I was skeptical to try another banana bread with whole wheat flour ince I don't usually like the flavor, this bread turned out really moist and flavourful! For more moisture, I simply added 2/3 c. oil instead of the 1/3 c., as well as 3/4 c. honey. Next time I would substitute for applesauce to make it extra healthy. My little kids loved this bread in spite of it being "healthy". I still like my traditional banana bread recipe but this one gets 5 stars for being tasteful with all the good for you ingredients!

Strawberry Cheesecake Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
Nice quick recipe with on-hand ingredients! I whipped this one up real quick when I had sudden company coming with coffee. Next time, I would: add simple cinnamon & sugar topping, or a crumb topping for more flavor. I'd use 6 oz. of cream cheese, and a generous tablespoon of jam instead of a teaspoon. These muffins aren't overly sweet, which I like! Otherwise, excellent!

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2009
The best beans and rice recipe I have tried yet. We joke that we are on "the Dave Ramsey beans and rice diet" to get out of debt in this economy. This recipe is a keeper, and a welcome change from boring beans and rice! Thanks, Robyn.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: May 12, 2009
This recipe certainly was "easy" but not quick enough for me. I stood and stirred for 20 minutes before the sauce finally became thicker. I added 2 t. oregano, 1 t. basil and a dash of nutmeg after reading other reviewers and it tasted GREAT! Definetely a keeper!

Overnight Caramel Pecan Rolls

Reviewed: May 2, 2009
The kids loved this! We served it with bacon and eggs for breakfast. Followed the recipe to a "T". Came out a bit dry. The caramel was hard, not runny and gooey like I expected. Overall, just a good, not excellent. Will probably look for another recipe, or try to make it come out less dry next time.

Lemon Scones

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
Having grown up around some wonderful scones, these scones, as an earlier reviewer mentioned, are definetely more like biscuits. Very soft and moist on the inside, not crumbly. As other reviewers suggested, I added poppy seeds and lemon juice to sour the milk. It could still use more lemon flavor. Next time I'll just convert my other tried and true scone recipe (search Cherry Chip Scones at Taste of Home) to include lemon flavoring. A bit disappointing but GREAT if you expect more of a biscuit or muffin-like result.

Banana Pancakes I

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
I wasn't expecting these to be sooo good! Perfect texture and flavor. We topped these with crunchy peanut butter and maple syrup. YUM! Next time I might try to substitute some of the flour with whole wheat and add some flaxmeal to add some healthy grains. Finally a different recipe for those overripe bananas besides banana bread! Highly recommend!!!

Banana Date Flaxseed Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2009
Extremely moist bread! It's guilt-free, too, if the oil is substituted for 1/2 c. applesauce and 1/4 c. honey, as suggested by others. It's chock full of good stuff for you! My only hesitation about giving this bread full stars is that is that it tastes of both banana bread, and a healthy grain bread... it is different. I'm not sure what to eat it with. I think it works best as a morning bread with coffee, like a grainy muffin would. Perhaps the flavor still needs to grow on me. For those who are used to eating flax, etc. you will love this! I love that this is a healthy "power" bread, is moist and good for you!

Teriyaki Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
Easy, quick and tasty. I changed the recipe to 1/3 c. soy sauce and 1/3 c. chicken broth instead of the full 2/3 c. soy sauce and it was still too salty for us. Next time I would add even less soy sauce, maybe 1/4 c. I'll be using this recipe on days when I need a quick meal with a bag of frozen stirfry veggies with some bite-sized chicken, and rice. Thanks for submitting!

Cream of Broccoli Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
Just "okay". Prep took much longer than 20 minutes since the soup didn't seem to thicken very quickly. Eventually, I needed to add some cornstarch to aid. Also, you don't need the full 2 1/2 cups of milk. I only used 2 and it still wasn't as thick as I expect from a cream soup. Needs more flavor. Possibly more boullion? Could do without the nutmeg as well. Kids loved it. Hubby doesn't need me to make it again.

Country Oatmeal Cookie in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
Wow... after such good reviews I thought forsure this recipe would be worth making! I am glad a made a batch before I gave them away. First of all, the ingredients hardly fit in the jar. I was going to use the advice of others for packing but after baking a batch, I won't be making another jar. They turned out really flat, and somewhat boring flavor. I'm going to try the Nestle recipe next. So disappointed!
