I come from a primarily Swiss-German heritage so a lot of my cooking background heads in the French and German direction (read: lots of heavy, creamy sauces and gravies). On the flip side, I really enjoy *real* Chinese food and my husband has been helping me to learn the ins and outs of traditional Chinese cooking.
My favorite things to cook
spaghetti, creme brulee, rosemary white wine chicken, artichoke dip, cookies, raclette, pot-stickers, brotkeugli und rice, spinach soup, steamed fish, shrimp gumbo
My favorite family cooking traditions
Rouladen, Brotkeugli, rosti, spaetzle and German meatballs
My cooking triumphs
I once made a creamy marina that my brother liked so much that he started to choke from trying to suck it down too fast. Another proud moment was the first time I made pot-stickers from scratch with my own modified ingredients; everyone loved them so much that I had coworkers asking for the recipe.
My cooking tragedies
I regularly block these from my memory...
