Red Lentil Curry

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2006
Fabulous stuff. Easy, quick, and delicious--really hits those Indian food cravings. I reduced the recipe by 1/4, used 1 T of hot curry paste and the heat level was perfect. Lentils got a little mushy, but they taste great anyway. Thanks for sharing this!

Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2006
Excellent--easy to make and delicious. I only used half the butter and half the mayo mixture and it was perfect. Also used corn tortillas instead of flour. This is going in the regular rotation.

Authentic Louisiana Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2007
Perfect--just like the red beans and rice I grew up eating, and so easy! I substituted turkey sausage for andouille and also added some pieces of turkey ham. It was a bit bland initially, but as the week progressed the flavors deepened wonderfully. Thank you for sharing!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2006
Another thumbs up for this recipe--mine cooked up perfectly, not too thin, not too thick, not overpowering but not totally bland. I added a tablespoon of Italian seasoning. I also ran out of all-purpose flour after adding about a cup and a half, so I added whole wheat flour for the rest and it came out beautifully. It was sticky with the quantities given, but I added a little more flour (kneaded with my Kitchenaid mixer) and it was easy to work with. It makes enough for two full-sized pizzas. Thanks for sharing!

Mama's Italian Wedding Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2003
Just made this for dinner--delicious! I cut the soup recipe in half and froze the leftover meatballs. Also used the tiny seashells--perfect for soup. Will be making this again.

Sweet Potato Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2002
Guests loved it. Nice creamy consistency, and the spices are a nice touch. It reheats well, too. I may cut back a bit on the sugar next time though; it is very sweet. I had more than enough batter to fill a deep-dish crust. Thanks.

Wonderful fluffy, cheesy, eggy goodness. I had enough to fill two deep-dish pie crusts from this recipe.

Caribbean-Spiced Roast Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2009
I've made this twice now and enjoyed it each time. It is true that if you only put the seasoning on the outside the meat won't take on much flavor; but isn't that true of any chicken? Try putting on rub under and outside. I used dark spiced rum in the marinade and also shoved a lime, cut in half, into the cavity of the chicken last time. Thanks for a great new way to roast chicken!

Very easy and very good. I was looking for a French toast recipe with actual flavor and this was it. Thank you.

Gingerbread Waffles

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2009
Very, very yummy. I made them as written, only leaving out the raisins, and they are great with just a little whipped cream or a little butter. As everyone else says, they aren't crispy (because of the molasses, I guess)? They do get a little crispier when you let them sit for a bit.

Honey Of An Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
Fan-freakin'-tastic. I am a new bread baker, and I made this two weeks in a row, it was so good. I made it the semi-traditional way, proofing the yeast in a bowl and mixing and kneading with my Kitchenaid. I definitely recommend the addition of a bit of whole wheat flour. I used steel-cut oats as they were all I had about the house, and they just melted into the bread. Man. I want some now!

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Fan-freaking-tastic. Made it with leftovers from the Caribbean Roast Chicken elsewhere on the site. Also used walnuts instead of pecans. Best chicken salad EVER. I wish I had some right now!

Tasty Buns

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2007
Wow. Add me to the list of admirers. The recipe was so easy that I was *sure* something would be off--they'd be bland, or heavy, or dry, or something--but they are phenomenal. I made a 1/2 recipe. Ran out of all-purpose after the first cup so I then used bread flour. I love the yeasty taste and they look just beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing your recipe.

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2008
Oh yum--this is just like the soup at a certain French-cafe-style chain (that we don't have here in North Carolina and I miss from my DC days). I used canned tomatoes and frozen basil cubes and it came out wonderfully.

Brick-Oven Pizza (Brooklyn Style)

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2007
Love. love. LOVE the crust. I made two small pizzas. Baked on my pizza stone and they came out perfectly. Be careful not to take out of the refrigerator for too long before using--the dough is pretty soft and my first disintegrated as I transferred it to the stone. The layering of tomato sauce didn't quite work for me--instead of mixing with the cheese it just kind of sat on top. It was yummy anyway, though.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: May 16, 2001
The muffins are really, really sweet--but heck, that's just what I was looking for! Mine also baked up nice and moist. I like cinnamon, so I used 1/2 tsp. for the crumb topping and I thought it was good. The topping does get a little soggy after two days, but they still taste good. Thanks.
