Green Bean Casserole I

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2013
Super easy and always yummy. My cousin is learning to cook. So new that she had to read out-of-box instructions repeatedly to make sure she was doing it right. She asked for simple recipe for a good thanksgiving side so she could start contributing. This was the perfect recipe!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2013
I love apple pie and this recipe was straight forward and easy! The only issue I had with this- there was a ton of runny liquid in the pie after I backed it. I wasn't sure what I was doing wrong. I didn't want to just pour it out. I made a lattice crust so I decided to pour into a bowl and thicken it with corn starch and spoon it back in. It was ridiculous. I was laughing at myself for doing it but it worked out in the end. Now when I make it- I put the ingredients in a pot on the stove and cook it. When the apples soften and the liquid is nice and gooey, I set it aside and let it cool. Then I put it in the pie crust and back until brown. It's been perfect ever since.

Classic Tiramisu

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2013
LOVED IT- I made this as a dessert contribution to a family dinner when we had a lot of family come in from out of town. It was a major hit! I made it again for pot luck at work and it was the only dessert that was gone. This is a keeper!

Love Mussels

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2013
Fantastic! I served this with toasted french bread- everyone loved it! This was first time cooking live mussels so I did a little research- so glad I did! I soaked them some water for 15-20 minutes, drained and rinsed them- the did that 3 more times. A reviewer said it could do with more sauce so I used 5 cups instead of 3 and added more garlic and seasoning. I also added some sweet white wine. This is a keeper!

Real Homemade Tamales

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2013
Wow! It came out better than I expected! It needed to be steamed much longer than 1 hr. When I checked it after an hour, the dough was not as soft as I would like, so I steamed it longer. I think I steamed it for another 2-3 hrs. It was amazing!

Easy Bake Fish

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2013
Turned out great and the sauce is wonderful. Instead of baking it in a baking dish, I put it in individual parchment pouches with lemon slices under it at 350. I'm definitely making this again!

Apricot-Glazed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2013
My family loves it! Made it for dinner when my in-laws came in and they raved about it. My husband normally dislikes pork chops. His previous experiences with pork chops consisted of overcook, hard, and dry- that no sauce could save. This was the total opposite! Moist, very tender, and great flavor. I cooked it a little differently from the recipe. I used regular canola oil and I just seared the pork chop to get a nice brown color and some juices flowing- but not fully cooked. I put the pork aside and put the wine/preserve/ginger mix into the pan to simmer with the juices for about 3-5 min. then added the pork chops back in to simmer with the sauce- flipping it every 2 minutes or so, to keep the meat coated and cooked evenly. I do this for about 10 minutes. It sounds like a long time but the sauce keeps it so moist! My mother-in-law even kept the left over sauce to put on other things- it was so good!

Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2013
After reading the views, I made some changes that were suggested: 4 lbs fresh peaches 1/2 cup Lemon Juice 1/2 cup Orange Juice 1/2 cup Brown Sugar 1/2 cup regular sugar 3 1/2 tbs corn starch I'm glad I did since the sweetness was perfect. I'm glad I didn't use the whole 2 cups. I could have used even more peaches since the dish I was using was pretty deep. I added cinnamon to the butter/sugar mix for the top crust. I just mixed it together and brushed it on. Yum! I also just use the ready to use roll out pie crust. I made for pot luck luncheon at work and it was a hit! This is a keeper!

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2011
Amazing! My friends loved it and it tasted wonderful- soft, fluffy and delicious. I am definitely making this again. My husband’s family has a tradition of making either sweet rolls or cinnamon rolls Christmas morning. After she had some, she asked me to make them this Christmas, they were so good! I used a lot of the tips I read from other reviews- adding the yeast and sugar to the lukewarm (105-115 degrees) Milk & water and let it sit 10 min before combining the rest of the ingredients... letting it rest for 10min before kneading it, letting is raise in a greased bowl for 2 hrs. I had rolled and cut the dough, placed them on pans and i stuck them in the fridge to bake in the AM. I let it sit on the counter to warm to room temp and let it rise a little before baking. I frosting was so easy to make and super yummy!

Master Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
Very easy and I made it and there was more dough than I thought! I made a giant pizza and my husband loved it. I used just active yeast instead of the rapid. I had to wait a little but it was good. It gave me time to clean up and prepare other stuff in the meantime :) The only thing I did different was add seasonings to the flour. I added garlic and parsley. This recipe is a keeper!

Raspberry Linzer Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2010
Great! I followed the advice to use parchment paper, it didn't stick at all. After cutting the cookies out, it was hard to transfer to the pan... especially the top portion of the cookie. (since there was a hole in it) When I was making the top portions of the cookies- what made it a little easier for me was cutting the the round cookie first- transporting them to the Cookie sheet and then use a smaller cookie cutter for the inside. I just used a small knife to scoop out the inside dough after. Perfect shape on the cookie sheet! I'm definitely making these again. It's time consuming but well worth it! Delicious! My husband can't stop eating them!
