I did a little experiment. I made two batches of this, following the ingredient list almost to the letter (the single exception was that my grocery store was out of chives so I had to substitute green onions). I made one batch the traditional way per the recipe, and the other batch in a rice cooker. Without telling them the difference, I asked my guests to try both and tell me which they liked better; most said they tasted the same, and those who I managed to squeeze a further opinion out of said that they preferred the rice cooker version. So much for tradition! That said, I will be making this recipe again, just with the simplified instructions.
