Curried Butternut Squash and Pear Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2009
Awesome recipe. Works with a variety of root vegetables/squashes/etc. We made it into a Butternut Parsnip and Rutabega Soup and got raves.

Tzatziki Sauce I

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2010
Added cucumbers as the most helpful reviews suggested. One of the times I made it I also put in some fresh mint leaves I had on hand.

Chicken Souvlaki Gyro Style

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2010
I only made the chicken (I used a different tzatziki recipe). I was a little dubious that something so simple could turn out good, but in fact it was delicious. I added a couple cloves of garlic and an onion; I cooked it in a saucepan and included the marinade which I let cook down to a thick sauce/coating on the chicken.

Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
I didn't think it would be this easy to replicate spring rolls. Delicious! I left out the shrimp and basil and added cucumbers; I used buckwheat vermicelli in place of the rice vermicelli. I didn't have chili sauce so I substituted white vinegar (not as much of a stretch as you might think - chili sauce is basically tomato sauce, vinegar, sugar and spices.) The sauce came out really thin so in the future I think I will mix some corn starch into the water before mixing with the rest of the ingredients. My wife said I should make them again. She's been saying that a lot recently, thanks allrecipes :P

Indian Style Sheekh Kabab

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
I left out 3/4ths of the spices because I was going from memory. I was shocked, SHOCKED! when it came out a little bland. Actually it wasn't bad considering. I bet this recipe is awesome when in full force.

Traditional Gyro Meat

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2010
I am not from Greece, but I visited there once. The meat they use in the gyros there is rather dissimilar to what we get here in the US; basically simple, flame broiled pork. Also they put french fries on their gyros. All that has nothing to do with this recipe, which was delicious and tasted just like US restaurant gyro meat. I followed the recipe just as described and it was worth the effort.

Green Eggs and Ham Quiche

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2010
Green eggs and ham came out all runny. I do not like them Moneypenny. I would not eat them with some changes. I would not eat them cooked on ranges. I would not eat them with thyme or garlic. Never mind that yucky Bisquick. The thought of this fills me with dread. Try the Spinach Quiche instead.

Taqueria Style Tacos - Carne Asada

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2010
I used only the marinade part of the recipe. It knocked my socks off. I found one but I'm still looking for the other... It may have joined its brethren departed from the clothes dryer. My wife liked it too, as did our unborn child. Thanks to the recipe author for a wonderful evening.

Chili Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2010
Just what I was looking for. I used tomato paste + water as the base. Also I replaced the allspice with paprika (I ran out of chili powder) and added some tabasco sauce. Furthermore, I boiled it in a saucepan for a few minutes to meld the flavors together. I know it seems like I am rating an entirely different recipe, but this got me going in the right direction, and for that I tip my hat.

Tzatziki II

I didn't have mint or cucumber. So basically I ended up with garlic flavor yogurt. I added extra garlic to compensate. My coworkers are not happy with this development.

General Tsao's Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2010
Really tasty. I first made this with just the breaded chicken, and used it in a stir fry with some bottled sauce to save time. It was good. The second time I made the sauce as well and it was even better. This gets better every time I make it. Tastes fine without the MSG. I always make it with broccoli.

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2013
I did a little experiment. I made two batches of this, following the ingredient list almost to the letter (the single exception was that my grocery store was out of chives so I had to substitute green onions). I made one batch the traditional way per the recipe, and the other batch in a rice cooker. Without telling them the difference, I asked my guests to try both and tell me which they liked better; most said they tasted the same, and those who I managed to squeeze a further opinion out of said that they preferred the rice cooker version. So much for tradition! That said, I will be making this recipe again, just with the simplified instructions.

Rich Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2011
It was my wife's birthday so I asked her what kind of frosting she wanted on her cake. I read off a few reviews to help her choose. She told me "make me that one with the husband who wants a bucket full," so I did. She ate half of it before I had a chance to put it on her cake.
