Round Steak Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
EXCELLENT RECIPE!! Very quick and easy to prepare. Changes made: fresh chopped onion instead of powder, and I didn't have a brown gravy mix on hand but I did have pork gravy mix and that actually might have been a bit better. Cooked covered in a sautuesse pan on the stovetop on a low simmer for about 1 1/2 hours. It fell apart. Delicious, will make again.

Exquisite Yeastless Focaccia

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
What a pleasant surprise this bread turned out to be. Like some of the other reviewers before me, I had my doubts about a non-yeast focaccia and how tender it might be. I doubled the amount to make 2 loaves for a dinner event, (mixing in my KA w/ dough hook) and took the advice of one other poster to bake in my two round 9" cake pans. I did have to add a bit more flour (1/3 C or so)so that it would all come together nicely. It is a sticky dough but with well oiled hands, it settled into the pans nicely. I did let it rest in the pans for about an hour prior to baking. Don't know if this made a difference or not but it certainly didn't hurt it. It rose somewhat and was very soft and tender. I also topped with a parmesan, cheddar, mozzerella combo. Easy as could be, and great bread with on hand ingredients. Will make again.

Dutch Babies II

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
When you just have to have something quick for dinner, and don't have time for a run to the store, this fits the bill. With regular pantry items, you can create this really wonderful and tasty old fashioned breakfast treat and have it on the table from start to finish in under 25 minutes. I just put everything into my blender and poured into the hot pan. A very smooth batter with no lumps. Great way to get eggs into one of my kids that doesn't ordinarily eat them also.

Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2009
Due to the fact that I had to cook 2 huge roasts simultaneously, to the tune of about 15 #'s total, these wouldn't fit into my crockpot. I ended up cooking them together in my dome covered turkey roaster. This was such a simple, carefree, easy thing to cook, I almost felt like I was somehow cheating. I started them at 11:30 pm in a 200 degree oven and by 7, when my daughter woke up for school, she thought that I had bacon cooking. The smell was so tempting and mouthwatering I could hardly stand it. I took it out of the oven about 2 pm and let it rest. I needed it for an event that evening and didn't bother to shred it until almost dinner time. Quickly re-heated it and got rave reviews from all party goers. I served it with fenadeni sauce from this site and steamed rice. Just delicious!

Pasta with Arugula Pesto

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2011
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THIS RECIPE. I had a mix of arugula and baby spinach to use up and have seen this recipe before but never had the arugula. Well tonight was the night for something fast and easy. Also, instead of walnuts, I used what I had on hand that being pecans. Otherwise it was as written and served with penne pasta. Thanks Jessica, it will be made again.

Chayote Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
Well Southbeach or no Southbeach, this tasty little creation is worth a look, a try and a keep. This was such an easy thing to put together and bake off that before I knew it, dinner was on the table. Only change(s) I made were, instead of adding all of the lime juice to the squash/ onion mixture, I used half the lime's juice and saved the other half to add to the top of the tomatoes and chiles. Also, instead of canned green chiles, I did use roasted poblano peppers that I had in my freezer. Served it over whole wheat egg noodles and pleased my 15 year old, so that alone speaks volumes. Thanks Deb, I'll make it again for sure.

Roasted Butternut Squash and Garlic Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
Having everything on hand, company in the house, including a vegetarian, and looking for something yummy to make for dinner between Christmas and New Years, this is what I decided on. I've had this recipe sitting in my box for a couple of months and finally gave it it's just due. This was extremely easy to assemble. I roasted the squash in the morning and had that ready when it came time to make dinner. Followed the recipe exactly, however, I did add a bit of nutmeg to the sauce and when layering also added some mozzarella cheese in addition to the Parmesan. Just a simple delicious meal with many happy groans from everyone around the table. I served it with a spinach salad, and hot garlic bread. Thanks for submitting a great recipe. Now I can't wait to make it again.

Baileys Holiday Martini

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
Lisa J is right in her review, it does taste like liquid whipped cream with a punch. This is one of those drinks that you can easily slurp down 3 and then feel it when you stand up. Nothing says Happy Holidays on a cold winter evening while wrapping gifts, quite like this. Enjoy!

Real Strawberry Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2011
with permission from the author of this recipe, I'm rating these cupcakes based on taste and not on actually making them..... YET. She made these and delivered some to my daughters and me. The taste is absolutely wonderful. They are very creamy with a bold strawberry taste that doesn't disappoint. I love that she uses only 4 simple ingredients and during fresh strawberry season, there is no reason to use artificial ingredients, or extracts that leave a funny taste, when you can make something as tasty and as easy as these.

Chocolate Frosted Marble Cheesecake

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2012
I loved this rich and very decadent cheesecake recipe. I followed the directions to a T, except...(and there's always an except), I didn't do the water bath. I ended up just putting it in the oven for 45 minutes with the foil lined pan and then as soon as the timer went off, checked for the right amount of jiggle and left it in the oven with the door ajar for about another 40 minutes before I took it out. It was perfect, no cracks and perfectly done. The sour cream ganache was very rich, but just perfect for this sweet indulgence.

Dannon Blueberry Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2011
It's a keeper. This was delicious and since my goal was to take something to my dad's house, I knew that this would be too much for him and my step mother. Instead of baking in a bundt pan, I poured half into a 9x9, and the other half into an 8x8 pan. Baked both at the same time for about 50 minutes and it was perfect. I did use frozen blueberries from last summer and have a lot left, so I can bet that this will be made at least one more time within the week.

Strawberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2011
What a great thing to have for a lazy early summer morning on the patio with a cup of coffee. Made it exactly as written except subbed the milk/vinegar trick for buttermilk as I was out and added about 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon to the crumb topping. I also used fresh strawberries in place of the frozen, again....it's what I had. Really delicious and easy to put together. Made the house smell great!

Drommar

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2011
Thanks to Marianne, for introducing me to this little hidden gem of a cookie. If you love shortbread type cookies this is the one for you. Like both Marianne and Marie C, I too bake at 300. In my oven I let them go for about 27 minutes and it's perfect. A new family favorite and will be on the holiday menu for years to come.

Jersey Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2012
I made this soup for our work "Souper Bowl" event. Glad to report that mine was the first one gone of 6 different entries. Delicious soup and so incredibly easy to make. I had 3 fresh tomatoes (it is winter after all) and used those along with home canned tomatoes and a large can of tomato sauce. Eliminated the extra salt, because I truly felt that there was enough in there already. Once everything was cooked to my satisfaction, I did use my immersion blender to make a nice and fairly smooth (left a few chunks for good measure) puree. I also did add some fresh basil along with the dry. Made it last night and warmed slowly in the crockpot at work. Gone by 12:30, it was a hit. Thanks Shorecook for another winner.

Chocolate Frosting I

Reviewed: May 1, 2011
Like a few others, I subbed butter for the margarine and didn't bother to melt it. I used it softened and it was fine. Also used whipping cream in place of the milk because I had it and also figured it would hold up a bit better for piping purposes and I was right. Excellent taste.

Soft, Moist and Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
The absolute best dang cinnamon rolls I've ever made and I've made my share. Like others, the pudding caught my eye and I knew I had to try this recipe. So glad I did, as this is really the only recipe I ever need to make again. The bread itself is so tender and easy to work with. The flavor is outstanding. Because of guests, I eliminated the nuts and raisins this time around and took the suggestion of some other reviewers to up the cinnamon. I did use 1 TBSP. Other than that, made as directed except I didn't use a bread maker and instead used my KA, and I am now a fat and sassy mama....not a good start to the New Year, but at least my family loves me and appreciates this!
