California Roll Sushi

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2009
Way too much mayonnaise ratio to finely chopped crabmeat. It drowned out the crabmeat taste. Instead of 1/4 cup mayo, I'd put 1-1.5 tbsp for 1/2 a cup of crabmeat.

French Fried Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
As everyone says, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The kids thought they tasted like New York Fries.

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
These were delicious. I didn't have any paprika so made them without it, and they turned out yummy anyways. I can only imagine the extra oompf if I'd been able to add that too. This is a keeper recipe so I'll add it next time....

Bat Cupcakes

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
So easy to decorate, the kids had a blast helping out. When making the bat wings, the kids found it easier to saw the cookies in half vs pressing down on them to split them in half. When they pressed down on them, the cookie tended to break apart not necessarily in half. Otherwise, this was a fun project.

Mom's Sushi Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
I've used this recipe about half a dozen times. It is perfect, the secret I never did before was the sugar and rice vinegar when I cooked my japanese rice. My older daughter loves california rolls and the compliment I got from her when she opened up her lunch was that she thought I bought them at a Japanese restaurant. I didn't like it as sweet though so put a little less sugar in.

Salmon Macaroni Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
Quick & easy to throw together. Had to use up an 18oz. boneless raw salmon in my fridge & had 2 boxes of Kraft white cheddar mac&cheese lying around. I just doubled the recipe, except 18oz salmon, not 12oz. (only for those who like salmon, this was a good amount & I think less would've been not enough seafood.) I also thought 1tbsp of onion was not enough (how can you even taste that little?) so added 1/2 an onion to the original recipe list. As an added touch, I put a thin layer of sliced cheddar on top while it baked so it would melt over the whole dish. Looked yummy! Dad and the 2 girls (10&7) went for thirds At least 2 of them will usually think I need more salt in things I make, but I didn't need to put any in! It tasted great the way it was. You can look at my submitted photo for my first try at this recipe.

Waffles II

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
I've never made waffles from scratch, these were perfect (fluffy inside, light crunchy toasty outside) I altered as per other reviewer's comments because the very 1st waffle was passable plain...so I quickly added to the remaining mixture, 2tsp vanilla, 1tbsp sugar, & 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon. My 3 kids (8-11) & my husband. They all thought the waffles were delicious.

Fluffy Whole Wheat Biscuits

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
These rose nicely and were fluffy, they tasted bland but I think it was because my whole wheat flour was not fresh..woo hoo - imagine making freshly baked cardboard tasting biscuits! I would try these again with fresh flour.

Touch of Honey Biscuits

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
My husband said these were good and was impressed I made them from scratch. I've never made biscuits before, these were easy to follow and turned out great. Took other reviewer's advice and added an extra tsp of honey. I didn't roll the dough out but patted it flatter than 3/4" to 1/2" flat and then folded it over so that each biscuit could pull apart for easier butter/jam spreading. I used a glass cup to cut the biscuits out and as per a tip on another biscuit recipe, I placed the biscuits just barely touching each other (so not spread 1" apart like this recipe says)so they would rise up and not sideways, worked perfectly. I would make these again. You can see the photo I submitted here to see how my biscuits turned out.

Chicken Pot Pie II

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
Excellent recipe, I've only made chicken pot pie once before, 8 years ago. That recipe had called for tarragon and I loved it so I also added 1tsp tarragon here for a gourmet tasty chicken pie filling! Used a cup of whipping cream and 1/2 cup milk instead and didn't use any frozen vegetables just fresh and chopped. Very Tasty! I also did not use this with a pie crust but made the "Touch of Honey Biscuits" to dip in it instead. So could use this for pie filling or as a chunky thick creamy chicken stew...

Fortune Cookies I

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
This was a delicious light crispy recipe. Those who rated this low, may not have got the technique of folding correctly. I actually found it difficult to bend over the sharper edge of a cup to form the shape. The cookie tended to tear or crack, but using a pot handle, which create a less sharp bend to the fortune cookies worked better for me.

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
This was very easy to make, I was in a rush this morning and was happy to see I had all the ingredients for the marinade and that it'd be all done in 8hr by 6pm! Kids thought it was a bit bland but still good, but a little bit more salt afterwards worked for them.

Slow Cooker Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
Great foundation recipe. Only 4 stars because chowder original recipe more watery and not as creamy as my family likes. We needed a good hearty hot meal to eat with buns during our ski day, so I doubled the recipe for our 7qt crockpot. Cooked on high for 5hrs. See 2 photos I contributed for my results from this recipe. I added additional ingredients & adjusted some of the original items (these are for the doubled recipe unless otherwise specified). Added: 2tsp thyme, 1 bottle clam juice (236ml) & the reserved 1 3/4cup clam juice from cans), 250g chopped crabmeat, 1/2 cup roux to thicken soup (heat on the stove 1/2 cup melted butter & whisking in 1/2 cup flour for less than a min.) I only used 1/2 a carrot total, cubed 6 potatoes (1/3" size), & fried bacon slices first. I then added 1 can condensed cream of mushroom & 1 can condensed cream of potato. As per other reviewers, evaporated milk was added at 1.5 hrs left to cook to prevent curdling. Added the clams & crabmeat at this time too. Added roux with 50 min left when it looked too watery to me. My 7yr old is so-so with chowder (doesn't like chewy clams), but she ate up her whole bowl (she liked the crabmeat). Changes for next time, not double original clam juice amt, therefore add only 1/4 cup roux. My 10yr old & husband also were impressed at the results.
