Babe Ruth Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2011
I have been making these for years. My Mom used to make these to put in our lunch boxes, and I did the dame for my kids. They are also great for showers and holiday cookie exchanges, with a little bit of fancying up! I eliminate the white sugar, and use 1 cup brown sugar. The white sugar may be part of the reason people have trouble cutting the bars. Also, since I have always used chunky peanut butter, I don't use extra peanuts. Often, I just leave out the chocolate chips, or I use them spread on top as a sort of icing. You can change up this recipe so many ways, and it is always great if you can get past its homely appearance!

Delicious Old-Fashioned Homemade Caramels

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2010
This recipe is phenominal! I absolutely love chewy things, and this is just the ticket. I also love rum flavor, so I added 1 tsp. rum extract, and otherwise made it just as posted. You won't be sorry if you try this, and it makes a TON of candy. Cut all your wax paper sheets ahead of time, and get someone to help you if you can, because it can get very tedious if you cut, roll and wrap it all by yourself.

White Chocolate Gorp

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
What a wonderful snack mix for the holidays. Be sure there are many people to share it with, or you will just have to eat it all yourself, and that is not a good thing. I made it, and I used Golden Grahams instead of Chex. I was a stroke of genius. I also used mixed nuts and some Cherios. I avoided the M&M's, since it was already a sweet chocolatey thing.

Depression Cake I

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2007
I made this recipe because it reminded me so much of a recipe I have called "Welfare Cookies", also made without eggs or butter. They are a soft cake-like cookie, and topped with a creamcheese or vanilla icing. So I thought it would make an excellent cake, and much easier than the cookies since I could just dump the whole thing into a pan and bake it. Good idea. It was moist and full of flavour. I doubled up on the spices since my husband loves spice cakes so much. This is a winner, with or without icing.

Meat Pie (Tourtiere)

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2002
I love this stuff, and this recipe is very similar to the one my Mom used to make. The only difference if that she used crumbled soda crackers to thicken the meat mixture. I makes a very smooth filling. Great at holiday meals!

Pumpkin Roll III

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2000
Very good. I brought this to school for the staff, and I had to go and print out the recipe three times. For a staff of 10 people, I'd say that was a success.

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: May 21, 2000
These are really good! They are just like the mall pretzels, only fresher. I prefer to put the coarse salt on when they are wet and let them rise that way. Then the flavor is really set in to the whole thing.
