About this Cook
I'm in my 20's and married to a wonderful man. I'm also a teacher for special needs and behavior management children. We have two VERY active dogs (Jack Russel mix and a Border Collie) and three exotic birds who I am also the short order cook for.
My favorite things to cook
Anything my husband wants or is willing to try. He's a very picky eater and so i usually have my hands full. Even the birds aren't as picky!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have been cooking and baking since I can rememeber. My grandfather didn't give us a choice with helping in the kitchen. My time with him was special.
My cooking tragedies
When my husband and I bought a house it came with a gas stove. I grew up cooking with electric. We ate some pretty bad dinners and pretty burned cookies until I got the hang of it!

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits
My husband and I loved this recipe. The only change I made was that I used butter instead of shortening ( I didn't have any shortening). I put the dry ingredients and butter in the food processor and let it blend on low for a minute. I took that mixture and put it in a bowl. I added 2/3 cup of milk and pulled the dough together by hand. I chilled the dough while I made most of the rest of the meal then flattened the dough gently with my hands. I used a biscuit cookie cutter to form dough. I baked the biscuits at 400 degrees for approximately 10 minutes (my gas oven cooks hot and fast). These were wonderful with the goulash and would be very good for breakfast with jam. THANKS!

Sweet and Sour Meatballs
The first time I made this I followed the directions exactly, but I made the meat balls smaller to accomidate my tastes. The sauce was okay at best. It was very thin and I almost tasted the grape, which grape jelly is pretty gross in my opinion. (the only reason I tried the recipe was because my husband talked me into it.) The meat balls also fell apart. I read the reviews and took someone's suggestion of using 1 cup of pineapple juice instead of the lemon juice and I thickened it a little with a flour water mixture. This made the sauce unbelievable! Then, I made my stand by meatball recipe and put the meatballs and sauce over egg noodles. The whole dish was transformed into an amazing dinner that I will repeat time and time again.

Bacon and Parmesan Penne Pasta
I thought this recipes was fantastic! My husband asked me to make it again the very next night! There were two things I added. I added about 4 cloves of fresh minced garlic (because my husband and I are garlic lovers) and a sprinkle of pizza/pasta seasoning. I tried it without the seasoning and it was still fabulous, but I like the flavors it brought as well. I will definately make this again!
