Sweet Grilled Shrimp Skewers

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
This shrimp has become legendary around our neighborhood - I've made it for several parties, and my husband turned his work buddies onto it as well. It's absolutely excellent - only change was to cut down the amount of molasses.

Antipasto Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
This is time consuming with a long list of ingredients - and worth every second of preparation and every item in your grocery cart. The dressing is so good - I use white balsamic vinegar so the dressing doesn't turn the pasta brown, but that's about the only thing I recommend changing. And sometimes I use sharp Provolone instead of Asiago cheese but that's just a personal preference.

Hornets Nest Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
This is my 21-year-old son's enduring favorite. He requests it for almost any occasion...even tailgating for college football games! I too got the recipe originally from the Cake Doctor's cookbook, and the only changes I've made from this recipe are using instant vanilla pudding and adding whatever chips I have on hand - chocolate, butterscotch, peanut butter...it's all good! Oh, and I use pecans most of the time.

Peanut Butter Cup Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
These were good and would have been great but I baked them just a few minutes too long. Still a hit!

Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
This recipe has taken the place of my grandmother's recipe that was still being used by my 77-year-old mother - and she is a legendary cookie maker. I have used vanilla, cheesecake, and butterscotch pudding mix and all three turned out excellently.

Mini Pineapple Upside-Down Cakes

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
I needed something pretty for my daughter's college graduation party and found this recipe. I bought jumbo muffin pans so the pineapple rings would fit. I used the pineapple juice with the pineapple cake mix and didn't find it too sweet. The pineapple lovers loved them!

Funky Cholent

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
Never heard of Cholent before I saw this recipe but it got me with the sweet potato! This was very good and I'll be making it as soon as our weather gets colder.

Creamy Orange Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
If you can find orange cake mix (I had to try 5 different grocery stores before I lucked out, now I stock up), this cake is a crowd pleaser. Another one I made for my daughter's graduation party. It looks beautiful and tastes even better. Thanks, Bea!

Italian Beef in a Bucket

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
I would have rated this a 3 but only because I'm not a big fan of the pickled vegetables. My half-Italian husband loved it so we compromised.

Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
As written, 4 stars, but I made it a 5 by tossing the apple slices with more cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. THEN it was great! Another family favorite in our house.

Really, it sounds too simple to be true but this chicken is wonderful.

Marzetti® Old Fashioned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
This is great for people who don't care for mayonnaise. We have friends whose son had never eaten potato salad due to his mayo phobia and I made this for him - voila! A convert. It's an easy, delicious variation.

Ragu® Upside-Down Deep Dish Pizza

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
This is a great concept, but Ragu (or any canned or bottled sauce) is just too sweet for us. It's a kid pleaser.

Gary's Stuffed Mushrooms

These are excellent. Don't omit the red pepper - it adds that little kick that makes a difference.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
I made these for a barbeque last summer because I had invited one of those "pesky" vegetarians (just kidding!) and need something different. She LOVED them, and another neighbor took one thinking it was a cheeseburger. He loved it so much his wife made them the next day. They are great.
