I live in Minneapolis with my husband. We enjoy Latin dancing, being outdoors (which is really only possible about half the year), and staying active (walking, roller blading, biking, etc). I hate the cold Minnesota winters! I am from Idaho and my husband is from Mexico. We ask ourselves every day of the winter how we ended up in such a brutally cold state!
My favorite things to cook
Since moving to Minnesota, I've really gotten into making homemade soups in the winter time. I like them because they are cheap, warm, easy, and filling! Some of my favorites are corn chowder, minetrone, and broccoli cheddar.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up in Idaho before Christmas my mom would put on a crock pot of chili and we'd go up into the mountains and cut down our Christmas tree. When we got home, the chili was ready and we'd eat and decorate the tree together. I LOVE chili. It is probably in my top ten favorite foods. I am sure it is because I have such warm memories from childhood attached to it.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean cream cheese strawberry filled crepe! I always had trouble with crepes sticking to the pan, but I think I finally got it down!
My cooking tragedies
I once experimented with making a black bean skillet. It was fine until I decided to mix in some scrambled eggs-- they turned black from the beans. It tasted ok, but it looked like something terrible. I think I should have done the eggs over-easy on top of the skillet concoction. Generally my experiments turn out better than that. What was I thinking!
