Spicy Pear Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2009
I love this recipe! The cookies are so soft and yummy. I use less ginger than the recipe calls for and no icing. Everyone who tries them is always surprised by how tasty they are, and the soft cake-like texture is a hit. Thanks for sharing!

Good Ol' Alabama Sweet Tea

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
This is a great recipe honest-to-goodness Southern recipe, but as everyone else said - it's way too much sugar. With half the amount of sugar it still tastes wonderful. I like to use raw cane sugar (turbinado) instead of white sugar; it tastes better and isn't processed as much. If you add lime instead of lemon it tastes almost exactly like "Arizona Iced Tea."

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2010
These brownies were great -- easily as good as if not better than any box mix I've ever made! If you follow the recipe exactly they turn out dense and fudgy -- not at all "cake like." Whenever I have a peanut butter/chocolate craving I make these and replace 1/2 a cup of butter with creamy peanut butter; it melts together wonderfully over medium heat. Or if I want to spruce it up a little I add 1 tsp. cinnamon to the regular recipe. I've never made the icing since I find that the brownies are great on their own. To those who can't get them to turn out review your ingredients and follow the recipe exactly -- no "fudging" the quantities. Remember that there is a big difference between artificial and natural vanilla extract when cooking since this is what covers the "eggy" taste. Try mixing with a wisk since this recipe does not really require the use of an electric mixer. A rule of thumb my grandma taught me was never to stir a box brownie mix for more than 50 strokes; once the flour and cocoa powder were added to this recipe I find that about 30 strokes will do it. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!

Octoberfest German Potato Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2011
Really great recipe. It tastes just like my Great-grandma used to make, and she was from Germany. The only change I made was using lime or lemon juice instead of vinegar since that is what she always did whenever she had the option. Doing this makes it taste more like a gourmet version.
