Allrecipes gets a new home [page]

It just got a lot easier for you to find inspiration and recipes you’ll love—thanks to all-new personalization and more choices on the Allrecipes home page!
Over the last several months, the Allrecipes team has been hard at work updating our homepage. Based on your input, there were three main improvements we made to the page are:
  • More photos! You know that cooks find inspiration and ideas through food photography. So, the new design gets rid of clutter, and puts the spotlight on the great photos created and shared by you, our community.
  • Personal suggestions! Based on your comments, we realize that often the hardest part of making dinner is simply figuring out what to make – the new home page shows more relevant recipe ideas. AND for the first time you  can find personalized recommendations based on recipes you have previously viewed, shared or saved. Now you can get quick inspiration from recipes that complement a dish you’ve recently viewed or by recipes similar to those already saved.
  • ‘All device’ friendly!  The lightning fast adoption of smartphones and tablets by our community means we need to provide a consistent site experience no matter where you are viewing Allrecipes. The new homepage is better optimized to perform and look great regardless of whether you are using a tablet, PC or laptop.
What do YOU think? We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Please add ingredient search to the search box! Remember not everyone uses the site every day, but that is such a popular feature, it needs to be easily located. Thanks!

don't like it at all!
Sep. 6, 2013 3:17 am
BSM, I see the ingredient search - once you click on the search box, and it opens, the ingredients are at the very end by the magnifying glass . . .
Sep. 6, 2013 4:18 am
don't care for it. where are the daily photos? . it was just great the way it was
Sep. 6, 2013 4:53 am
The "Search by Ingredient" is by far the best tool this website offers to find recipes. IMHO, this should be so easy to find and use that no one should ever be asking where it is.
Sep. 6, 2013 5:22 am
Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the new look. I agree with others that the ingredient search tool needs to be easier to locate. Also, a general comment, please make it easier to search by ingredient within a collection.
Sep. 6, 2013 5:44 am
I just wish we could see our recipe boxes (the 3 most recently added and how many recipes we have in there) in the top right corner, like we used to. I really enjoyed that feature. Oh, and being able to access our recently viewed from the home page, like we used to.
Sep. 6, 2013 6:33 am
I am not a fan of the new look either. To much stuff on the home page. I also miss the 2 videos on the old home page.
Sep. 6, 2013 6:59 am
[Being able to recommend published recipes from my phone is still on my AR Wish List . . . ]
Sep. 6, 2013 6:59 am
Agree with Christina about the RB, too!
Sep. 6, 2013 7:00 am
Also, I don't know that I want to look at several recipes similar to what I just saved . . .
Sep. 6, 2013 7:37 am
don't like it at all
Sep. 6, 2013 8:39 am
Thank you all so much for your feedback! I will be sure to pass your comments along to the team!

Changes! Changes! I agree about the ingredient search. Wish we'd do away completely with the voting!!! I'd like the photos to move a little slower. Otherwise, I'll adjust to it! I usually don't look at the front page anyway!

On the link for the magazine to subscribe, could you possibly change that to a link where they could find out the questions we are asked on the buzz as well as subscribe? Something like "magazine questions and subscriptions". On the page where you subscribe, you could add an easily found FAQ to questions like "where is my magazine" and "how do I pay", etc.
Sep. 6, 2013 9:31 am
Actually, why do you need two places to subscribe on the page? Couldn't you use one of them for site questions and mag questions, etc? Not everyone knows to use the site map on the bottom.
Sep. 6, 2013 9:50 am
Disregard the last statement. I could have sworn I saw two subscribe boxes before.
Sep. 6, 2013 10:25 am
Cluttered, messy and I don't want to see 10 of the same recipes as what I was looking at last. That would be my first thoughts. Don't like it at all!
Sep. 6, 2013 3:36 pm
I don't like the changes. I come for recipes, not photos. I miss the home page navigation. And what happened to the daily recipes? Much of what used to inspire me daily cooking is now gone.
Sep. 7, 2013 4:37 am
Like Jan in Dallas just said, I also wondered where the daily recipes disappeared off to... I liked to look at those each morning to check out some "random" recipes for the day that I might not have otherwise found.
Sep. 7, 2013 4:39 am
Ah I found them! In case anyone else is wondering, the Daily Recipes are part of the big slideshow at the top. I just didn't see them when I first saw the main page because I was too shocked at seeing all the unexpected changes and didn't pay attention to what was going on in the big box at the top of the screen. lol
Sep. 7, 2013 7:54 am
One more suggestion. Would it be possible to get updates on the cooks we follow, such as when they review, when they post a new recipes, etc.? Otherwise it really serves not much purpose other than just being a fan club.
Sep. 7, 2013 11:38 am
I really like the new format/layout. It's easier to read and navigate. Nice job!
Sep. 7, 2013 5:24 pm
How do you add a recipe to My Recipe Box?
Sep. 8, 2013 9:19 am
How do we now access Allrecipes' "Trusted Vendor Partners," I think that was what they're called? Basically, your sponsors like Goya, Johnsonville, etc. This feature was on the left sidebar on the homepage in the past. I think it's much more "cluttered" now, and sorry, don't like the meal icons at all. And finally, you don't promote the Ingredient Search enough. Fantastic feature, but who would know how to use it? You have a line on there that says " ingredient..." and I thought maybe if I clicked on the word ingredient, it might take me to that feature, but it didn't. I'm not opposed to change, but I'm not sure how improved the homepage is right now.
Sep. 9, 2013 6:07 am
Wow! Talk about visually overstimulated! Could you tone down the flashing, rolling recipe of the day/videos? Waaaay to "in your face". Makes me kinda jump back from the screen a bit.
Sep. 9, 2013 6:16 am
What I wish to gently mention is that many users of this site (daily) have given you suggestions as to what we would like to have on the site. We give you much feedback as to what enhancements we are looking for but it seems to go unheard. We are a working, evolving focus group providing you free and valuable insight to what your customer base is looking for. It would be great to have some of our requests seriously discussed and considered.
Sep. 9, 2013 12:35 pm
I don't care for the flashing recipes and I really don't care to see my recently saved recipes. Where are recipe photos to vote?
Sep. 10, 2013 9:43 am
Can you search for recipes within the brand sponsor? I couldn't see how to do that.
Sep. 10, 2013 11:41 am
On the left where it says "Get Inspired", I would like to see a link to recent "reviews", for that is where I get my most inspiration. I used to spend hours reading the reviews but "out of sight, out of mind". Since they have been taken off the front page many moons ago, I don't read them as often as I forget they're there. Please bring them back to the front page.
Sep. 11, 2013 5:11 pm
I think before you go poking around the home page OR "Buzz" any more with all these improvements that no one cares for, you could spend some serious time going over recipe classifications. When a person FINALLY is able to find where you can browse recipes by region or ethnic cuisine, they will either be horribly mislead or just realize they've wasted their time searching for useless information. Example? Under "Mountain West" it is primarily Texas style recipes...I know because the recipes are called "Texas Style ______". Texas isn't anywhere near Mountain West. In southern recipes, there are Cuban recipes lumped in. Cuban food isn't southern food. It's CUBAN food, very good food, but it's its own cuisine. As is, the categories are useless but it would be a nice feature to have if one could trust the information.

Too much moving content, and it moves too quickly. If you refuse to remove it, could you at least add a pause button or slow it down. All of the advanced search features are hidden, which is ridiculous. Too many tabs and buttons that say the same "word" but link to different content. The help pages are also well hidden and often out of date. Fix something that is broken, please.

I was going to go pro today then I saw all the changes and that there were many complaints which dont seem to be heard.... And I have changed my mind. I will wait and see where all the good advice the members have given gets to. I hope it is resolved soon.

i have vision problems and find all the busyiness on home page confusing. Don't like it!
Sep. 22, 2013 11:50 am
Don't like it. Clutter overload.
Sep. 25, 2013 3:27 pm
I have already called All Recipes to tell them of my displeasure with the new format. I always made it a habit to click on All Recipes every day. I many times would try one of their "featured recipes" and would usually check out the featured video also. I told them I will no longer be clicking on the site on a daily basis. The site has now become way too "busy."

About Me is the world’s largest food site created entirely from contributions from talented home cooks. Allrecipes was first introduced in 1997 by five college students who loved cookies and had the early vision the web would be a fantastic place for people to find and share everyday food ideas. Twelve years later, is home to an amazing community where millions of recipes, reviews, ratings, photos, and blog postings spanning all types of ingredients, dish types, occasions and cooking styles are viewed and shared daily. Allrecipes grows every day as the community continues to share new ideas and experiences. Along with the original site, Allrecipes now has communities for home cooks in Australia/NZ, China, France, Germany, and the UK/Ireland. (Check them out! You’ll find links at the very bottom of this page.) For cooks on the go, Allrecipes is available free on the iPhone via the Dinner Spinner app, and web enabled phones at
My favorite things to cook
Everything and anything! Allrecipes community is an amazing resource for discovering all types of dishes and treats
My favorite family cooking traditions
All of them! How could anyone choose? All year long our community is cooking and celebrating seasonal holidays and special family occasions. Even the dinners we all have to get on the table every night can be a cherished tradition—or will seem so once the kids are grown.
My cooking triumphs
The millions of recipe choices, the tips and advice, the support and encouragement to try new things or rediscover old favorites make using this site a constant joy.
My cooking tragedies
Who doesn’t have these? Too many to tell really, but from each disaster there’s something to learn and laugh about. Cooking is meant to be an adventure!
