Allrecipes has exciting news! Today, we’re joining First Lady Michelle Obama, Partnership for a Healthier America, and five of America’s largest media companies (including our parent company Meredith Corporation), in a brand-new campaign to make healthful MyPlate recipes easy to discover and share using an appetite-appealing collection of Pinterest boards.

What’s behind this delicious collaboration? By supporting Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign, we’re doing our part to help make it easier for Allrecipes’ 30 million community members and American families to put nutritious meals on their dinner tables everyday.  Because we all feast first with our eyes, each participating brand is contributing photos of eye-catching, mouthwatering recipes to 27 Pinterest boards to inspire you with dishes from breakfast to dinner, kid-friendly to make-ahead, and grilling to healthy desserts. Scroll through the boards and you’ll find plenty of healthful choices to answer the question, “What shall I cook today for my family?,” with a tasty answer!

Allrecipes has also created a collection of more than 300 MyPlate recipes, nearly 50 MyPlate Videos, and a MyPlate article to help our community better understand the MyPlate guidelines. You’ll also find that tomorrow's Recipe of the Day will be a MyPlate recipe!

“Allrecipes has thousands of easy, quick and nutritious recipes on our site, and as the world’s #1 food brand, we’re excited to collaborate with Let’s Move and Partnership for a Healthier America to share these recipes and make them easy to find on Pinterest,” said Esmee Williams, Vice President, Brand Marketing. “Allrecipes believes nutrition needs to be approachable and understandable so healthful choices are accessible to everyone. Our goal is to inspire home cooks with confidence, and we understand from our community that ‘healthy cooking’ can sometimes be intimidating. With this innovative program, healthy recipes are easier to discover, and the wide variety of family-friendly recipes will give cooks confidence they’ve found a dish their whole family will enjoy.”

MyPlate is simple and straightforward. The plate diagram displays five familiar food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy. But unlike the USDA Food Pyramid, MyPlate conveys the proper proportion between the food groups. At a glance, it’s easy to see fruits and veggies should take up half of your plate, while protein is one quarter. MyPlate was designed as a visual guide to help people make “positive eating choices.” A few sensible, stand-out tips from ChooseMyPlate:

  • Enjoy your food, but eat less
  • Avoid oversized portions
  • Make at least half your grains whole grains
  • Compare sodium amounts in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals and choose foods with lower numbers
  • Drink water instead of sugary drinks

About Me
Allrecipes.com is the world’s largest food site created entirely from contributions from talented home cooks. Allrecipes was first introduced in 1997 by five college students who loved cookies and had the early vision the web would be a fantastic place for people to find and share everyday food ideas. Twelve years later, Allrecipes.com is home to an amazing community where millions of recipes, reviews, ratings, photos, and blog postings spanning all types of ingredients, dish types, occasions and cooking styles are viewed and shared daily. Allrecipes grows every day as the community continues to share new ideas and experiences. Along with the original site, Allrecipes now has communities for home cooks in Australia/NZ, China, France, Germany, and the UK/Ireland. (Check them out! You’ll find links at the very bottom of this page.) For cooks on the go, Allrecipes is available free on the iPhone via the Allrecipes.com Dinner Spinner app, and web enabled phones at m.allrecipes.com.
My favorite things to cook
Everything and anything! Allrecipes community is an amazing resource for discovering all types of dishes and treats
My favorite family cooking traditions
All of them! How could anyone choose? All year long our community is cooking and celebrating seasonal holidays and special family occasions. Even the dinners we all have to get on the table every night can be a cherished tradition—or will seem so once the kids are grown.
My cooking triumphs
The millions of recipe choices, the tips and advice, the support and encouragement to try new things or rediscover old favorites make using this site a constant joy.
My cooking tragedies
Who doesn’t have these? Too many to tell really, but from each disaster there’s something to learn and laugh about. Cooking is meant to be an adventure!
