This week brings us several recipes perfect for the holiday table. Try your hand at mincemeat pie from scratch this year with Homemade Mince Pie with Crumbly Topping. Cinnamon, clove, and grapefruit zest flavor the apple-raisin filling of this home-style pie. While you have the oven on, why not make some Cranberry Banana Oat Bread? Santa might appreciate a break from cookies this year…

We also have a trio of new sweet potato/yam side dishes, beginning with Maple Glazed Sweet Potatoes with Bacon and Caramelized Onions. A little fresh thyme seasons these roasted sweet potatoes. Chipotle Garnet Yams add a little smoked jalapeno heat to the classic, sweet side dish. Speaking of smoky, Cedar Planked Spuds takes roasted garlic mashed sweet potatoes, and finishes them in the oven with a little sweet cedar smoke.

About Me is the world’s largest food site created entirely from contributions from talented home cooks. Allrecipes was first introduced in 1997 by five college students who loved cookies and had the early vision the web would be a fantastic place for people to find and share everyday food ideas. Twelve years later, is home to an amazing community where millions of recipes, reviews, ratings, photos, and blog postings spanning all types of ingredients, dish types, occasions and cooking styles are viewed and shared daily. Allrecipes grows every day as the community continues to share new ideas and experiences. Along with the original site, Allrecipes now has communities for home cooks in Australia/NZ, China, France, Germany, and the UK/Ireland. (Check them out! You’ll find links at the very bottom of this page.) For cooks on the go, Allrecipes is available free on the iPhone via the Dinner Spinner app, and web enabled phones at
My favorite things to cook
Everything and anything! Allrecipes community is an amazing resource for discovering all types of dishes and treats
My favorite family cooking traditions
All of them! How could anyone choose? All year long our community is cooking and celebrating seasonal holidays and special family occasions. Even the dinners we all have to get on the table every night can be a cherished tradition—or will seem so once the kids are grown.
My cooking triumphs
The millions of recipe choices, the tips and advice, the support and encouragement to try new things or rediscover old favorites make using this site a constant joy.
My cooking tragedies
Who doesn’t have these? Too many to tell really, but from each disaster there’s something to learn and laugh about. Cooking is meant to be an adventure!
