Sizzling sunshine and ripe peaches, sunflowers and tomatoes, strudel and raspberries, a rocky lakeside beach with kids splashing and plenty of boats at the marina. It’s the Kirkland Wednesday Farmers’ Market! Mix everything with the Allrecipes team under a green tent handing out tote bags and seeds with corresponding recipes. Add a generous measure of Allrecipes fans and curious shoppers. The result? Lots of farmers’ market fun!

And we were there! This is Judith D. writing to tell you all about it. We set up the Allrecipes tent last Wednesday, August 19, in Kirkland, Washington, right on the edge of Lake Washington, and spent the afternoon from 2 to 7PM meeting and greeting. It was the last stop on the Allrecipes’ Fresh Picked Meals Tour. We gave out seeds for basil, squash and green beans in packets paired with recipes for each veggie/herb. (Click these links to try the terrific recipes: basil, squash and green beans.) We gave away tangerine-colored tote bags. We tried to stay cool! It was hot, hot, hot! We tasted peaches and dreamed of peach pie or peach cobbler. And we talked to lots of fans—many who didn’t realize Allrecipes is based in Seattle—and met new ones. People got excited when they heard Allrecipes is in Seattle—a home-grown website!

Now that summer is winding down, what are you buying and cooking at your farmers’ market? How late does your market go? Are you getting any local pears and apples yet? What’s your favorite fall fruit or veggie and what do you cook with it?

About Me
Allrecipes.com is the world’s largest food site created entirely from contributions from talented home cooks. Allrecipes was first introduced in 1997 by five college students who loved cookies and had the early vision the web would be a fantastic place for people to find and share everyday food ideas. Twelve years later, Allrecipes.com is home to an amazing community where millions of recipes, reviews, ratings, photos, and blog postings spanning all types of ingredients, dish types, occasions and cooking styles are viewed and shared daily. Allrecipes grows every day as the community continues to share new ideas and experiences. Along with the original site, Allrecipes now has communities for home cooks in Australia/NZ, China, France, Germany, and the UK/Ireland. (Check them out! You’ll find links at the very bottom of this page.) For cooks on the go, Allrecipes is available free on the iPhone via the Allrecipes.com Dinner Spinner app, and web enabled phones at m.allrecipes.com.
My favorite things to cook
Everything and anything! Allrecipes community is an amazing resource for discovering all types of dishes and treats
My favorite family cooking traditions
All of them! How could anyone choose? All year long our community is cooking and celebrating seasonal holidays and special family occasions. Even the dinners we all have to get on the table every night can be a cherished tradition—or will seem so once the kids are grown.
My cooking triumphs
The millions of recipe choices, the tips and advice, the support and encouragement to try new things or rediscover old favorites make using this site a constant joy.
My cooking tragedies
Who doesn’t have these? Too many to tell really, but from each disaster there’s something to learn and laugh about. Cooking is meant to be an adventure!
