Bar-B-Que Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2014
This sauce was great! After it had cooked a bit, I tried some and then made a few addons. Instead of one dash of hot sauce, I went for four since we like it spicy. I then added a squirt of honey and it turned out perfectly spicy and sweet. Will make again for sure and might try regular vinegar instead as someone else suggested.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2014
These were great! Only modifications for next time would be to cut the rice in half, quickly sautee the tofu so it gets a crust and maybe double the sauce. Couldnt find chili paste, so garlic chili sauce was a recommended substitution online. I at least tripled this part and would even double that for some good solid heat.

Fried Dill Pickles

Batter wouldn't stay on and they were disappointing (but I still ate a bunch!). Will try another recipe!

Easy Pilaf

Reviewed: May 26, 2014
This was exactly what I was looking for in a rice dish. Didn't want anything crazy and with ingredients we had around the house. Be sure to add some salt (we use salt free chicken broth), it makes a big difference, and don't feel like you have to skimp on the onion. This turned out wonderfully, will make again!

Easy Cream Cheese Danish

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2014
Works great, halved it for two of us and we had two breakfasts out of it. Used one can of pilsbury rolls, split in half, and halved all of the other ingredients. Lemon is key to bring out flavor. Good on day two, not so much on day 3, so eat them right away.

Buffalo Chicken Burgers with Blue Cheese Dressing

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2014
These burgers turned out great! Wasn't sure what to do with the ground chicken I got on sale and this was the perfect solution. I only used 1lb of ground chicken (that's all I had), so I reduced the hot sauce but a tablespoon or so, but I could have left it in for some additional heat. I left all the other measurements the same - next time I might add more poultry seasoning just to kick up the flavor. The only thing I added to the burger mixture itself was some chopped onion. As per other reviews, I formed the patties and stuck them in the freezer for about 20 minutes to firm them up before going on the grill. For the sauce, I was liberal with the blue cheese (love blue cheese, can't have enough) and added a bit of garlic powder and pepper as per other reviews. The chopped celery adds an interesting taste and texture; I could do without it but I get where the recipe is going by adding that. They took quite a while on the grill but it was well worth it. Will be making these again for sure and will try out some different toppings!

Tzatziki Sauce II

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2012
This was a great, super simple tzatziki sauce I made to go with souvlaki on a greek night. Definitely put in the mint - makes the dish. I had dill on hand so I added just a bit in there as well and it turned out great. I used a fairly fine grate on my cucumber because nothing is worse than hunks of it in what's supposed to be a creamy sauce. My guests couldn't stop eating it!!

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2012
I can't get over how EASY and SIMPLE this recipe was! I don't have a bread machine, so I made the dough in the late morning and let it rest (as per someone else's instructions - sugar and yeast in water until foamy (5min) and then combine as per instructions) until it doubled in size. I wasn't ready to make the pita yet so I just left it to sit for a while longer. I pulled it out and separated it as per the instructions and since I was at the cottage and the oven was occupied with potatoes, I did these on the grill! Be sure to oil the grill well and watch as they cook but they were fabulous! Soft and warm and perfect to go with the souvlaki I made! i will NEVER buy pita again!

Fluffy Peanut Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
I was rather pleased with this frosting recipe; I used it on a chocolate cupcake recipe from a magazine and it turned out fantastically. Great texture and piped very well onto the cupcakes. Not overwhelmingly peanut buttery but good nonetheless!! I had to beat this icing quite a bit because it didn't come together as easily as I had hoped but it smoothed out after just a minute or two of beating on a high setting. Definitely make sure the peanut butter is softened and the butter too!

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
Fantastic - super easy to put together and a very tasty result!! I never keep dried parsley so I substituted some italian seasoning. As well, I didn't feel like getting a saucepan out (did these in a toaster oven) just to melt butter so I grated some garlic and put it on a plate with the butter and into the microwave for about 30 seconds. One of the best tips from another poster was to use a food processor to blend the breadcrumbs and cheese together and it worked fabulously. I had a very nice even breadcrumb/cheese coating that stuck well to the chicken. I also 1/4'd the recipe as there's only 2 of us and I had 2 chicken breasts. This one is going into my recipe book!

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2011
I had raw cauliflower in my fridge and I knew I wanted to roast it but wasn't sure what to do with it besides that. Found this recipe and now I've got a winner! I was liberal with the garlic and it turned out fantastically! Even my boyfriend who has an aversion to veggies like cauliflower liked it and said he would definitely eat it again. I cooked mine at around 425 and most pieces were nicely browned after about 20 minutes.

Not the best white cake I've ever made, nor the easiest. I had difficulty getting it out in one piece, something I normally NEVER have a problem with.

Barbecue Tofu Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2011
For never having made tofu before, this recipe was a snap to make and the tips in the comments were super helpful. I followed another users directions of putting the tofu between two dinner plates with paper towels on either side for 20 minutes, as well as the directions regarding flash freezing the tofu first. Very pleased with the results, had the same texture as chicken! I think you could omit the bbq sauce as well and just dress your burgers as you would with a regular chicken burger, mayo, lettuce, tomato, whatever you like.

Oh-So-Good Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2010
This was an okay recipe; I liked how quickly it came together but it was very salty and almost rich... I think that if I were to make something like this again, I would omit the mushrooms (I LOVE mushrooms but they really didn't fit in this dish) and use it as a filling for soft tortilla wrappers or something.

Roast Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2010
These potatoes turned out fantastically - the flavor wasn't overwhelming and really let the crunchy outside of the potatoes shine. Goes fantastically with chicken breasts baked in the oven. I started these potatoes and after cleaning and prepping the chicken, popped that in too and they both finished at the same time! I've made these a few times now and will continue to make them on nights I'm making main dishes that take a bit longer to cook.

Black Forest Cake I

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
I've made this recipe a few times and every time it comes out fantastically. Sour pitted cherries are hard to find, at least I thought, so I use 1.5 cans of Cherry Pie Filling (spend extra money to get a good quality brand as it really affects the flavor and quality of finished product!). This cake is fantastic every time; looks impressive and everyone loves it! I tried taking the two cake layers and making a 4 tier (2nd time around) but I found it sort of leaned to one side (too heavy), so try to stick with the 3 tier and using the extra piece as crumbles for the outside, makes ALL the difference. I also suggest making this cake at least a day in advance; for people who said it was too dry, putting it in the fridge and letting everything come together really makes the cake moist (it also travels better!). The cherry filling seeps into the cake and its just delicious! It's also a time consuming cake to make, so doing it in advance is easier :)

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
This was a great recipe for banana bread! I didn't have walnuts or vanilla extract on hand, so I omitted the walnuts and added cinnamon in place of the vanilla extract. Good result - my loaf pan was a bit smaller than 9x5, so my banana bread ended up darker on the outside but so far, its a hit! We'll see how long it lasts once my roommates get home!

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
These were really super easy to make, but they really weren't muffins. I took some advice from the reviews and added more milk to the recipe, but they were pretty much like tea biscuits with chocolate chips in them. I wouldn't make them again as muffins, perhaps omit the chocolate chips and make them for when people come by for tea.
