Cream Cheese Brownies III

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
Perhaps it was my fault this recipe didn't turn out well. I followed the instructions completely. The brownie batter ended up being very thick and there wasn't even enough to cover the bottom of my pan. At that point, I doubled the recipe and added about a half cup of milk. I was hoping this would make the batter a bit more flexible, and this is the only modification I made to the recipe. The brownies had a wonderful texture, but they were tasteless. The cream cheese mixture tasted too eggy and the chocolate didn't hold it's own. Maybe the milk messed things up. I will definitely try to make this one again just because the reviews are wonderful! Thanks so much anyway for the recipe!

Black Bean Nacho Bake

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
This recipe is good, but if you are serving it as a main dish you may need to make some modifications, as the taste is a bit dull. I follow the recipe but add a few things to amp up the flavor. I add green onions, diced tomato, black olives, cumin and taco seasoning. Also, if you tend to have leftovers in your house, don't put the chips on the whole thing. Put them only on individual servings. Otherwise, the heated up leftovers will have stale, squishy chips on top. This recipe is a lot of fun to play with and add your own twist to! Thanks so much for posting it!

Southern Chess Squares

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
My grandmother used to make these for me as a kid, and I never had the recipe, nor could I find these in most bakeries. I gave this recipe a shot and I'm so glad I did! They come out so gooey and dense. They are also so simple to prepare! This is a perfect dessert for busy moms. Also, these definitely need to cool before you try them. I tried it warm and thought I had done something wrong because they were still a little runny. Once they cooled, they were absolutely perfect! This is a wonderful, almost fool proof recipe. Thanks so much for submitting it!

Soft Sugar Cookies IV

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
Absolutely perfect! I have a hard time making cookies just right, but this recipe is fool proof. I rolled the balls of dough in sugar before putting them on the cookie sheet which gave them a crispy outside and warm, chewy inside. I plan to make this recipe again and again! Thanks so much, Laura!

Boyfriend Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
These are hands down the BEST brownies I have ever made! I omitted the walnuts simply because I don't like them. The brownies are so moist and chewy! Perfect for all brownie fans. Thanks so much for the great recipe! I will make this again and again!

Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
I have never made truffles of any kind before and I'm SO glad I tried these! I spend so much money on truffles for myself and for guests and gifts. These truffles are better than any store bought ones I have ever had! They are also so simple to make. They didn't have the Oreo taste I was expecting, so if you aren't a die hard chocoholic you might not like these. However, if you love chocolate and you need an easy recipe, this is your best bet. The best part is, they are easy to make, inexpensive to make, very delicious and they make an absolutely elegant treat. Perfect for parties or guests! Thank you so much for the wonderful recipe!

Blueberry Muffins II

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
I have no idea why anyone found this to be bland. They are bursting with flavor! I suppose the people who thought it was bland maybe didn't follow the recipe correctly. Adding the mashed berries into the batter really added a lot of flavor and made the muffins very colorful. I am not a fan of blueberry muffins because they tend to be bland, and I was actually making these for a friend. After I tried them, I kept half for myself! They are melt-in-your-mouth delicious, easy to prepare and very pretty! Thank you so much for the recipe! I will definitely be making this one again and again.

Molasses Sugar Cookies II

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2011
These cookies are so good they make my mouth tingle! They are so yummy with coffee or even a bit of vanilla ice cream. They are so rich and gooey on the inside, sweet and slightly crisp on the outside. My only suggestion to anyone who hasn't tried this is that if your dough feels firm before you put it in the fridge, don't put it in the fridge for long. I left mine in over night and it took an eternity to roll into balls! However, it was well worth it as these cookies are excellent. Easy to make, yet when someone tries it, they will think you are a baking master! Thanks so much for the fantastic cookies!

Addictive Chocolate Truffles

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
I was not impressed by these truffles. My idea of a perfect truffle is one that can even be delicious if no flavoring is added. This truffle is mediocre, only if you add a flavored extract. Even then, they are lacking. They are not smooth or rich, but almost taste like you are biting into an old Hershey bar. I used Ghirardelli chocolate, and it still turned out bland! Another problem with this recipe is unless you are making teeny tiny truffles, there is no way you will get 50 out of this. Even after making them smaller than regular truffles, I only got 30. I will stick to my Alton Brown truffles from now on.

Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2011
These are some darn wonderful chocolate chip cookies! They are almost perfect! Great flavor and everyone I know loves them. I only have 3 issues with these cookies. First issue, the batter is nearly impossible to work with. It is nice and firm, however, it is so greasy that the chocolate chips will not stay. They slide down to the bottom of the batter and you end up with cookies that have tons of chocolate and cookies that hardly have any. Second issue, I found that the 12 ounce bag of chocolate chips was too much. I ended up having about a quarter of the bag left in the bottom of the bowl, and hated to throw them away. Third, if you like soft, chewy cookies, you might want to cut down on the baking time. However, these cookies are worth the trouble! They are melt-in-your-mouth yummy! Thanks so much for the recipe, Felix! They really are the best.

Apple Streusel Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
These muffins were okay, but I felt like they could have been better. I really don't like muffins that don't pop with flavor. I felt like these didn't. However, they have a great texture and are very easy to make, so I might try again using a bit of apple sauce and maybe a pinch more cinnamon to try and liven them up. They are decent muffins, but lacking. Thanks anyway!

German Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
I made this for my step-dad's birthday today. It turned out great, but that could be because I made a few modifications to the recipe! I changed the 1/2 cup of water to 1/2 cup of strong coffee. I usually do this for any chocolatey recipe that calls for water. I also added 2 more ounces of chocolate. The cakes in the photos didn't look chocolatey enough for me. I also lightly toasted the coconut and pecans for the frosting. The cake turned out great. The texture was almost silky. I had an issue getting the cake out of the pans, but that was my own fault. I left the cake layers in the pans too long, which causes condensation on the bottom. So I kind of ripped the bottom out of a couple of layers. The frosting is another story. It tasted AMAZING. I don't even like German Chocolate cake and I LOVED it!!! However, it's so runny! I tried everything suggested in other reviews. I cooled it. I mixed vanilla pudding mix into it. Corn starch. Everything! It was just relentlessly runny. This sucked for several reasons. The obvious problem is my cake didn't look pretty. I made it for a birthday dinner, so I really wanted it to look nice. The other problem is the icing oozed out of the sides. So when I cut the cake, there wasn't much filling between layers. That really took away from the overall taste. So all in all, the cake was completely, totally perfect (with a few modifications). The frosting, although tasty, is impractical. I'll make it again, but use a different frosting.
